Friends in Rochester NY
 

Hello All -

Some friends of ours have done us a great favor. We would love to get them something in the $100 range as a thank you. Is there something in the Rochester area that we could buy a gift cert. for? Restaurant, play, etc.? I am thinking of lobsters and clams from Legal Seafoods but they are not that good this time of year.

How about tickets to Broadway show in New York City. People from Rochester often travel to NYC for shows.

I was hoping for something closer to home. They often travel on business and I could probably get them something anywhere that they would use but I was looking for something that would be close to home. Maybe a supermarket GC, a Movie GC?

If they're chablis and brie types, this won't work. But if they like good, honest smokehouse barbeque in a fun, raucous (sp?) atmosphere, Dino BBQ would be fun.

If you're looking to give a supermarket gift certificate try Wegmans, they are THE grocery store in Rochester.

By the way, New York City is no where near Rochester, it is about a 6-7 hour drive and would involve going there for the weekend, not a night of theatre. It's a common misconception that Buffalo and Rochester are a short drive to N.Y.C.

My favorite for lunch or dinner is Phillips European. In addition to wonderful menu selection they have the largest dessert display in town. You can stop in after a show for just dessert and a drink or specialty coffees.

You might also consider tickets to GEVA theatre, they do a wonderful adaption of 'A Christmas Carol'. The theatre is smallish and the view is pretty good from all seats. http://www.gevatheatre.org/

KathyK, I knew this as we go to Rochester at least once a year. My sister lives there and she, her family, her friends and many others who live in Rochester area travel often for a weekend in Manhattan. I was just thinking what would make her and others who live in Rochester, NY happy. I never claimed it was a short drive.

If they are sports fans, I would recommend tickets to the Rochester Amerks for hockey or Red Wings for baseball. Nice restaurants include Avon Inn (which has a website)and Crescent Beach. A hotel in Niagara Falls could be nice as it's only an hour away - we love Michael's Inn (they also have a website). The Fingerlakes Wineries are also close - you could send them wine and there are many websites for that as well.

Thanks to all. I got them a certificate to Dinosaur Bar-b-que because it sounds like their kind of place. I had to laugh about the Wegmans idea. When we visited them one year, they actually took us to Wegmans and frankly we were as amazed as they had hoped. No giant mega markets around us yet.

That's so funny, Shaz. I have a friend who moved to the Rochester area, and when we visited, Wegmen's was on the agenda as well!

I have actually bought them a gift certificate for having my son as a house guest on a different visit, and Dino BBQ it was! Must be the place to go in Rochester.
