Fried pickle recipe

Well, this certainly has raised a hullaballoo on the board! So which of these is the best recipe?

http://www.cooks.com/rec/search/0,1-...ickles,FF.html

GoTravel Jun 9th, 2006 02:55 PM

I like the pickle spears fried instead of the pickle chips (not to be confused with the bag of Lays Dill Pickle potato chips I just assaulted).

My husband set up a restaurant (he's a consultant) in Raleigh and he put fried pickles, fried corn on the cob, and fried twinkies on the menu. It is a wing joint.

FainaAgain Jun 9th, 2006 02:56 PM

I don't know what is fried twinkies :((

But I know there are fried green tomatoes.

No_name Jun 9th, 2006 03:04 PM

Yummmmmmmmm, fried twinkies and fried snickers!

FainaAgain Jun 9th, 2006 03:12 PM

Don't make ME snicker :)

GoTravel Jun 9th, 2006 03:18 PM

Fried Twinkies:

iceeu2 Jun 9th, 2006 05:23 PM

GoTravel...I think the next MB gtg should include a few of your DH's treats. Especially the fried twinkies...YUM-O!

seetheworld Jun 9th, 2006 05:26 PM

Can we add some fried chicken? Man, I haven't had fried anything in such a long time! Anyone else hungry? :)

indytravel Jun 9th, 2006 05:30 PM

Oh STW nothing says loving like something from the deep fat fryer. That dumb doughboy was wrong, wrong, wrong about the oven.

Come to the Midwest. We fry lots of things here! :-)

Budman Jun 9th, 2006 05:35 PM

I'm thinking MB in late September. Pickles, twinkies, and oysters. YumYum!!! :-) ((b))

mah1980 Jun 9th, 2006 05:38 PM

Frying pretty much anything makes it better. Fried artichoke hearts are delicious too!

That's why living in the South is the best!

iceeu2 Jun 9th, 2006 05:39 PM

Budman.......head it on over to NMB to the Freeze Beach Shack....it's small, but some mighty fine company will be there to welcome you!

GoTravel and DH can pick up and "wash" the oysters and fry them there twinkies and fix up some pickles.

We will get the cold beer and all other good stuff!

Heck, I might even talk the real icee into cooking some BBQ!

....

GoTravel Jun 9th, 2006 07:24 PM

We'll do the oysters! After all, no one can make cocktail sauce as good as mine!

I'll have one of his chefs do the twinkies because I don't trust myself with hot grease!

iceeu2 Jun 10th, 2006 03:13 AM

I can make cocktail sauce as good as yours!!! You gave me your recipe!!!!!

Oops.........I bet beachdweller will want to have this at his place. That will be fine.

Carry on........

Budman Jun 10th, 2006 03:44 AM

Does this post remind you of something?

http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34565652

I'll bring whine. ((b))

beach_dweller Jun 11th, 2006 07:34 AM

Fried everything? Yep, guilty pleasure.

I like deep frying sweet potato fries too.

Okay, Mrs. Beach_Dweller and I are in for another MB area GTG, especially if GoTravel is roasting oysters!

Now as far as hosting . . . sure, as long as it's a Saturday.

FainaAgain Jun 11th, 2006 11:37 AM

Melissa, let's invent a new Fodorite's dish: fried pee-Kal :)) or pi-Kal?

wow Jun 11th, 2006 12:14 PM

Go: What's in your cocktail sauce?
And...what's the best way to fry fish...like sole. Dip in flour first or egg first? Then crumbs? I need this for this evening if anybody can help!

GoTravel Jun 11th, 2006 12:31 PM

wow, dip the fish in white flour, then egg wash (beaten egg with a tiny bit of milk), then in whatever batter you like. We like to beer batter ours.

The cocktail sauce recipe is easy, equal parts Heinz Ketchup and horseradish with a whole lemon squeezed (squoze?) into the mix.

Fried twinkies, fried corn on the cob, fried pickles, and fried sweet potatoes.

Someone invite the cardiologist to the GTG.

wow Jun 11th, 2006 12:35 PM

Go, Thanks! You mean flour, then egg, then beer batter? How do I do the "beer batter"?

GoTravel Jun 11th, 2006 12:39 PM

Instead of adding water or milk to make the batter, use beer as the liquid.

flour, egg wash, then batter, then deep fry.

MelissaHI Jun 11th, 2006 02:03 PM

Now, Faina, Kal is not here to defend himself, but if I am reading your post correctly, you would prefer to experience P/Kal hot & greasy, rather than 'in the raw?'

;)

No_name Jun 11th, 2006 02:19 PM

To coat anything sweet like twinkies, candy bars and the like, pancake batter works great!

JAGIRL Jun 11th, 2006 02:30 PM

Fried twinkies & snickers I've seen
Fried corn on the cob...that's one I've never seen before. Is that done in a batter too?
:-)

JAGIRL Jun 11th, 2006 02:33 PM

Just checked out the fried pickle recipe...are you guys serious that it tastes good?
I mean...fried pickles???:-&

rb_travelerxATyahoo Jun 11th, 2006 09:39 PM

doesn't "cooks.com" (the site quioted by the o.p.) have a place to discus RECIPES? Or are their boards filled with travel discussions?

rb_travelerxATyahoo Jun 11th, 2006 09:47 PM

give me a recipe to use the carcass of this pooch in.
http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...p;tid=34820163
Now THERE'S a TRAVELING recipe of the 4 footed kind!

FainaAgain Jun 12th, 2006 09:18 AM

Melissa, not hot, not greasy, just aged in vinegar. Where is he? I thought his trips are due in September.

GoT, reading of all those recipes, I'm thinking more of a mortician not of a doctor!

lisettemac Jun 12th, 2006 10:56 AM

I love fried pickles, but it has to be the chips, not the spears!

wow Jun 12th, 2006 03:45 PM

Thanks, Go! I pan fired the sole! It was amazing! And, your cocktail sauce w/ shrimp was a big hit too! Now I just need to get a couple of those La Coste dresses. Looks great bit I don't know about the "drop waist". That sounds a little weird to me.

wow Jun 12th, 2006 03:46 PM

Pan fried!

maria_so Jul 17th, 2006 03:41 PM

finally had fried pickles this past weekend! Iremembered it being mentioned in a couple of threads before so I had to order them. We were at a litte town called Winchester having steaks after mountain biking at Smithville's Rocky Hill Ranch. Very yummy although I still prefer fried mushrooms better.

MelissaHI Jul 17th, 2006 04:31 PM

I did find the pickle chips in Washington, DC when I went there last month. I bought a bag and took it to Monica Pileggi's GTG, proudly displaying it with a big smile, except no one at the GTG had been on the board for a while so the joke was lost on them.

GoTravel Jul 17th, 2006 04:36 PM

LOL Melissa! That is so funny!

So you just showed up with a big bag of Lays Dill Pickle Potato Chips and they all thought you were nuts?

I'm mourning those chips! I'm training again and cannot eat them!

MelissaHI Jul 17th, 2006 04:47 PM

I did. I pulled them out and was like, "Look! I got the pickle chips!" "Whut?" "You know, THE PICKLE CHIPS." "Ummmmm......ooookaaaaaayyyyy....."

iceeu2 Jul 17th, 2006 04:53 PM

Melissa...maybe they thought you had seen a ghost at your hotel!!!

I believe also, but have never experienced!

Budman Jul 17th, 2006 04:53 PM

MelissaHI, you must have pulled those chips out before I got there. You know I would have tried them. :-) ((b))

MelissaHI Jul 17th, 2006 05:17 PM

I did. I was so embarrassed that I put them away.
