Cmcfong, we are ALL gonna show up in Mt Airy (such a great name), don our jamies, grab you and DH and head to the drive-in.

Then they'll make a movie about us! LoL

My favorite thing at the drive-in was my brother and I going up in front of the projection booth and doing a quick shadow puppet show of two rabbits hopping across the screen before the guy would come out and chase us away. I don't think Mom and Dad ever figured out that was us when we went to the restroom.

There are three drive-in theaters in the surrounding Buffalo area. And it's been a while since I've been to one.

BG, your post makes me want to check and see what's playing at them before the close for the season. (I hope they haven't closed for the season). That would be :-(.

LOL Jetset. I was remembering the time a friend and I decided to check out the XXX drive-in nearby. We thought we were real cool until the images came on the screen. We freaked and drove away with the speaker still hooked into the window (Beer was definitely involved).

The other memorable drive in experience was seeing Jaws with a big group of people at the drive-in in Windham, Maine (There may have been beer involved).

Drive-ins were the only thing my parents could afford. I never went to a theater unless our uncle took us or until I was old enough to pay for myself.

We'd eat dinner and mom would make a big batch of kool aid and pop up some popcorn. We's all climb into the back of our Rambler station wagon. I'm sure I slept through the adult movie, but I do remember staying up for one that made me upset and confused. I was about six and the movie was called, "Black Like Me".

Ah, the memories. I think you're right, I should call my mom (dad is gone) and tell her what fun that was.

We've still got a drive-in :) It is down the street from our house.

You know we had one here in Chicagoland around 220th or so South Cicero until about 9 or 10 years ago. Now no more. It lasted way beyond that era.

We had about 4 choices when I was a child. One called the Double Drive In had two sides, a play-ground and one night that I can remember- the rats and other critters eating the garbage in the play area garbage bins and popcorn on the ground, was a better "watch" from my window than the movie.

I must say, that I was a real city kid though- and always preferred taking the 7 block walk to the bus to get to 63rd St. and have my choice of theatres. I did this when very young, with my little brother, or with a couple of girlfriends- all the time.
Permission would never be given at that age now.

I can remember one of the very first times I went downtown on the Archer Ave. bus was to see "Around the World in 80 Days" in cinema something. It was a big deal, more than seeing a live play today.

Walking around the parking lot in my pajamas. It felt very risque.

Loved the corny fifties commercials for the snackstand, like the french fry diving into the ketchup. Then the words "available at the snackstand" would flash.

I think there are more drive-ins around than many of you realize. You might have to drive an hour or so, but they're still out there. Unfortunately many of them are pretty plain. No cool-signs and just a cinderblock snack stand.

There is a drive-in about 30 miles from my hometown. I went a few times in high school -- very fun and mostly about making out. :)

Missoula, MT doesn't have a drive-in but they do show classic movies outdoors at one of the schools during the summer. You can bring your lawn chairs, picnic, blankets and sit out under the stars and watch the show.

Some of my <b>absolute best family memories</b> are of the nights mom and dad packed the car up and prepared my sister and me to go to a drive-in movie!

My parents had an old, silver, no frills, two-door, Ford Escort. Theyd put the seats down in the back and line the bottom with sleeping bags, blankets, and pillows. My sister and I would put on our pajamas and enter what felt to us as our own little world!

Mom would pop <i>a ton</i> of popcorn and put it in a huge white Tupperware bowl (the same one every time) that wed pass around throughout the movie!

There is still a drive-in theater in the Tampa, FL area but its slated to come down, along with some orange groves, to make room for condos…

Hey thanks! My Cicero Drive-In is still there, they must have reopened. I know it shut down for a couple of years in the '90's.

Anne! My first drive-in experience was Bambi too! Our family didn't own a car, so we borrowed my uncle's Chevy.

DH and I were reminiscing about our (separate) drive-in experiences a few days ago. I checked our local paper to discover there's still one in our area. It even shows first-run movies. It's the one down the street from J Correa.

We still have a drive-in,too! It's a non-profit, actually, that the local community rallied aruond whe it shut down in 1998. We've been a few times this summer--blankets, PJs, the tailgate of the pickup and snacks from home. Haven't brought the dogs, yet, though! Most families make a night of it and picnic for dinner before the movie. It's just so much fun!
