Friday Harbor House?
Husband and I are looking to get out of town (from Seattle) for a weekend or at least a few days. Has anyone stayed at the Friday Harbor House in the San Juan Islands? We'll probably just spend 1 night and 2 days up there (driving). Is this a good place? Is there a little town nearby? What else "to do" in the vicinity.
We'll likely go in April, so it'll still be wet/cold.

I liked it very much. It is situated overlooking the Harbor and the town is easily accessible walking around. The food in the restaurant was very, very good. The rooms are large and nicely appointed. I would go back in a heartbeat. Riding bikes, kayacking, walking, all great pasttimes there. Have a good time.

Friday Harbor House is right in the town of Friday Harbor which is the biggest town in the islands but of course it's all relative--it's still a pretty small town. The inn is quite nice and the restaurant is great--but I think I remember reading something about them planning to add a new wing? So you might want to check to see if that's true and if construction will be going on while you're there.
If you're from here you probably have gore-tex jackets so even if it's raining you can still go walking/hiking in the parks on the island.

Thanks! Would you suggest we just leave our car behind at Anacortes then? It's such a short stay, I can see us just hanging around town or renting bikes.
Just figure that would help out with attempting to guess what time we need to arrive for which ferry, etc.

Well, if the weather is bad, then you'll probably wish you had your car so that you can get out and see something of the island if biking isn't a good choice due to weather. You might look into the cost of renting a car on the island as a Plan B just in case--when you compare the cost of taking your car on the ferry and the time cost for the ferry wait, then it might make sense, and if the weather cooperates then you can just rent bikes (or mopeds, if you are into that) and you wouldn't need to rent the car after all.
