Friday afternoon in NYC

I'm looking for some do-able suggestions for a limited block of time. DD (15) and I arrive at LaGuardia at noon, are staying at Michelangelo (W. 51st), and have theater tickets that evening. Suggestions for the afternoon without over-doing it? Suggestions for a kind of unique dinner in the area? Thanks

Is this your first trip to NYC? What are your interests?

Have you been to MOMA since it reopened?

Sorry for being too vague. Not my first trip, but DD has had only one big trip to NY a few years ago(covered: chinatown, ellis island, tenement museum, WTC, American Girl, Rockefeller Center, NBC).
Haven't been to the reopened MOMA. That was one I was considering. I want to stick pretty close to our area given the time constraints and having dinner before the show.

..and as to dinner, I just found a post below with some good suggestions, so please don't trouble to answer on that. Thanks.

Don't you have seven hours to unpack, do something and have dinner?

You have plenty of time to do lots of things-
if you want to eat before the show, I would think you would want a rezzie for 6pm at the latest - assuming show is at 7:30 - depends if you want more time to eat, and to walk and stretch on way to theater -

what type of food? Do you want something specific? Indian? Thai? Italian? Greek?

Put in New York Restaurants, Pre Theater Dining NYC, things like that into the search this forum box - there are so many threads on favorite pre theater dining options -
look at opentable.com - plug in your date, time and see what comes up
favorites of ours are Remi (an easy walk from Michelangelo and near MOMA) or eat at the new restaurant at MOMA, Modern) - also Roberto Passon

We stay at the MIchelangeo sveral times a year, you will not be disappointed -

what else do you want to do?
Often I arrive on Fridays around noon or 1 to spend a weekend with my daughter who lives in the city -
between then and dinner or theater we have shopped, walked, - really you have 4-7 hours depending on if you are going to unpack/flop (don't know how far you are coming from) or hit the ground running - or need an hour to shower/dress before dinner-
give us a hint !!!!

will you hit the ground running at 1:30 and go staight through with maybe a quick change prior to dinner at the hotel?

save some time pre or post theater to enjoy a drink in the Michelangelo lounge -

also, I'll find the link to my report from my last visit to see my daughter and post soon- don't know if you will have time but a great mother/daughter thing near Union Sq is tea at Lady Mendl's at Irving Place

I would do Top of the Rock and the Rock Center/St Pat's area. Lots of see/do, great shopping and a very different New York feel than Times Square - but still near the theaters.

Thanks for all the good suggestions!

here are the links from 2 nyc trips w/ restaurants and ideas - - it was my wknd in nyc with my daughter and the tea at Lady Mendls. Below is the link when I ate at Vice Versa, if you want to look at that one - for a treat after the theater, your daughter might like dessert at Thalia's - and in these trip reports are some fun spots - Chocolate by the Bald Man (if you love chocolate) or Tisserie, if in those areas -

Escargot- Thank you SO much for the links and all the good information. There is so much to do, and only so many meals a person can eat! But, now I have to print your posts and go through everything.

You are wonderfully through!
