frequent flier question
I am trying to use my miles (30,000) for a trip to the Caribbean ($600 value). I have called American and there are no seats on the flights I need. My TA needs to ticket tomorrow -- -what is the likelihood that a seat becomes available between now and then? Anyway around this?

thanks

I don't understand. If there are no seats now, why would there suddenly be a seat w/in the next 24 hours?
|
the airline told me that seats may become available if people who are holding them drop them. or maybe they increase the number of ff seats? I don't know?

There are probably no "air miles" seats left. I understand that only a certain number of seats per flight are allotted for air mile redemption. Try to change your dates slightly and maybe you'll have some luck.
|
You could be wait listed for an award ticket but you might not clear the list until departure time.

That won't do you much good if you have a non-refundable ticket.

You said your TA wants to ticket tomorrow, but when are you leaving?
|
Try the American forum at Flyertalk.com. Each flight only has so many seats available for reward tickets. Some do not open until late (generally 10 days before flight).

My flight is dec 7 to the caribbean and my TA has to ticket today.

should I wait until I go to europe in the spring to use these miles?

Is there a reason it is necessary to ticket tomorrow? I have used AA miles to fly to Cayman. We were trying to get on the same flight as some paying friends, but in the meantime just to make sure we were able to get there, we put seats on hold on a different flight. FF seats can be held for up to 30 days and then you can roll the 'hold' over for another 30 days. So after trying three different times with AA I finally found an agent who was able to get us on our friends' flight using our miles. In the meantime, I was told to try calling after midnights, when seats on hold not purchased are put back in the computer. I was also told that the closer it gets to that flight time, if it is not selling out, they will open up more FF seats. But in my case I was always dealing directly with AA, not through a TA. Maybe you can try calling AA directly and see if you can get a helpful agent?

Your FF miles aren't going anywhere...use them for another trip. BOOK very early (like 10 months) to be assured of a FF seat. Good Luck.
