Fremont Street experience in LV

How is the Fremont St. experience? Is is worth the trip. How far is it from the Bellagio...Thanks!!

When I was there a couple years ago, it was a sort of computerized light show, with music, that was shown on the canopy over Fremont St. It was fun, worth seeing for sure if you're there for more than a day or two. It's in the old downtown, which is a cab ride from the big hotels further up on the strip. I'd say check it out, and while you're there you can see Binion's and the other old attractions that are still there. Kind of a neat way to get a glimpse of the old Vegas.

I second Elfie's opinion.

The show is neat. It is best in the evenings when it has cooled down a little. The show ends at midnight.

Instead of a cab, you can take a city bus #301. The fare is $1.65 each way, and the buses run 24 hours a day. You certainly wouldn't want to walk from downtown to Bellagio; I'd guess it was about 3-4 miles!

I think it's something everybody who goes to Vegas should do once, for the reasons Elfie gave. I went the first time I went to Vegas, but have never had an urge to go back. Still, I'm glad I went so I could see the light show and experience the old downtown part of Vegas, including some of the places you see in movies and TV shows set in Vegas (esp. some of the famous old neon signs).

One caveat about the bus is that it can get very, very crowded. You may have to wait in a very long line to get the bus back and then it's standing room only and very unpleasant. The one time I did it, I wished I had spent the few extra bucks and taken a cab. Also be careful about wandering too far out of the main Fremont St. area -- while I felt completely safe in the crowds under the canopy thing, we took a wrong turn trying to get back to the bus stop and suddenly ended up in an area that we really didn't want to be in at night. Maybe another reason to just catch a cab back at one of the big hotels downtown.

Hugo's Cellar in the 4 Queens hotel has great food. We usually cab it down there one night for dinner at Hugo's, an hour or so at the blackjack tables and catch 2 or 3 experiences (of the light show variety, keep it out of the gutter!).

take the bus. also plan on going for dinner. the hotels there are cheaper then on the strip. is it the golden nugget that has the shrimp cocktail for cheap??? the table downtown also usually have lower limits. it's fun for one night (unless your only there for two nights - then i'd stay on the strip.)

cabbing it--$25 +...I`d bus it and ask the driver where to get back on....and thereis an express downtown......the old casino`s are a hoot and Glitter Gulch also....

Rosey,

I think you've heard enough about the Freemont St. Exp. at this point, so I'd like to throw in my two cents worth about downtown. As "Alsofun" stated, Hogo's Cellar is a wonderful restaurant. It's a dinosaur of a place with great ambience, great food and very attentive service. It's one of those romms that are few and far between these days.

If you're in the mood for a steak, I would also recommend Binion's Steak house. It's at the top of their hotel/casino and offers nice views in a nice room. The food is quite good and not quite as expensive as some other steak houses in town.

And, speaking of Binion's, if your enjoy blackjack this is the place to go. Single deck, face up or face down--they offer it any way you like to play it. Lots of dollar tables, too.

Have a great trip!

DJ
