Fremont Experience worthwhile?

Is a trip from the Strip to the Fremont Street Experience worthwhile, just for the sound and light show? How is the overall ambience in the evening?

If it's your first trip to Las Vegas and you have time and you want to "see everything", I say go for an hour or two at night to see the lights. But it's certainly not worth spending the whole evening there. The casinos and restaurants on Fremont Street are older and considerably more downscale than the Strip...and the crowd of people is very different.

Those easily amused will find the light show amazing. Others, especially the younger generation, will find it interesting for a short while then yawn and want to do something else. It held my attention for a few minutes. Was that "worth" the trip for me? Probably. Since I like to see things myself to form my own opinion!

If you planned on heading Downtown anyway to gamble at Binions, et al, and you had some time to kill, fine make the trip. Otherwise, I wouldn't go out of my way.

I thought it was pretty lame, given all the build-up. Basically, it is a sport's arena scoreboard but on a roof, instead of a wall.

I thought the 2 million light bulbs were pretty spectacular. Plus, the slots are looser downtown.

Go for an hour or two, see the "light show", eat a cheaper meal (but equally as good) as the strip, get some 99cent shrimp at the Golden Gate, see "old style" vegas, then head back to the main strip.
We thought it was well worth seeing. First, a taxi (or bus) trip up the strip is kinda exciting, seeing all the hotel lights/neon, people, etc.; the Fremont light show was cool (though don't know if I'd make a special trip to see it a second time); and touring/gambling the downtown casinos is a whole different "ambiance" than the strip (a little more "serious" gamblers, a little "rougher around the edges" - it's hard to really describe the difference). Had a fabulous meal at the Golden Nugget to round off the evening. All in all, I'd recommend it to a first-timer.....

Would you enjoy visiting a trailer park and watching all the white trash? If so, by all means go. You'll enjoy the ambiance of the Fremont Experience. It's OK, and quite a different crowd from downtown.
