Free Tours by Parks and Rec in New Orleans?

A friend of mine told me that there are free tours of various areas of NO through the Dept of Parks and Recreation.

Does anyone have any info on this?

I appreciate any assistance.

I don't know their schedule but there is a free tour. The National Park Service's free 'History of New Orleans' tour
departs from their visitor center on N Peters St.which is right near the French Market. As far as I know the French Quarter is their only free tour other than inside parks & things.
I have taken this tour twice and have really enjoyed it both times. A different topic was presented on each tour. It lasted about an hour and a half. It starts at 9:00am, but you should get in line to get tag at about 8:30am.They only take 25 people per tour once a day and it is first come first serve. Have fun! Laurie

I have taken two tours in NO. One was with the National Park Service (free) & the other was with the New Orleans Ghost Tours ($18). The Park Service was a much nicer tour. It was not hokey & was very informative. The Ghost Tour was very hokey & the info was questionable.

I have taken the Free National Parks Tour and it is really good....You can bail in the middle and also just hop in one if you see it. But, of course, it's much better to do the whole thing. There's a great program and some exhibits at the National Parks Visitors Center,,,which is where it starts and ends. Fo info, try www.nps.gov
