aduchamp1, thanks for a great list. Can't wait to put it to use.
|
I will be there, In NYC Thursday, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
|
You are all welcome.

Ok, this is funny. Really funny. I was laughing out loud (alone in a room) my dh had to come and find out the joke - so I read some of these tidbits to him. He was laughing too, and he doesn't laugh that much... (bad knees and all)
Ok, so now what do I do with this? I copied and pasted and reformatted it and still have THIRTEEN pages of wonderful, hilarious food experiences and suggestions. We're barely able to get clothes (and meds) for 12 days in our little carry-ons.... So, put it in a book! I'll buy it. You are one funny man. No offense intended. |
Thank you, it is intended to be funny. Too many people write in hushed and reverent tones about food, as if some solemn vengeful food god will strike them dead with a fork from a unreviewed restaurant if they are funny. Worse, other people will not take them seriosuly.
When I was a kid they would dress up pool players in tuxedos for tournaments to give the game "class." Things should be described they way they are and food should be fun and many seem to forget that. Fodor's-Brahmama is brillant women, you know where to find me. |
This is perfect timing...I'm heading back to NYC next weekend for a short trip...hope to get a quick visit into even just one of the places on Aduchamp's list! :-)
|
Love the list, Aduchamp! You might want to sign up for the updates from www.goldstar.com. They have all kinds of great events and many are low cost. The different boat cruises might be a nice option.

The NY Public Library on 5th Avenue frequently has exhibits that are free.
Also, the Library at Lincoln Center. Browse the lower level of Grand Central Station - wonderful food stalls. |
Um...regardless of your locations, you can always try the things to do for free page of the random idea website. http://random-idea.com/category-free.html check it out, it's pretty cool and has loads of fun ideas that can be done for free!

H and H bagels on the upper west side is closed for good.
I second Uncle Nick's on 9th Ave and 50th St. Its close to the the theater district, not expensive, with daily fresh fish, and a variety of Greek food for all tastes. I eat here fairly often when I go to the theater. Buy your tickets for Anything Goes as soon as possible. it was wonderful. its a "hot" show plus its a roundabout theater subscribers show. San Gennaro .. one long sausage.. not worth going to at all these days. If you are in NYC on a Friday Saturday or Sunday you can take the ferry for free to Governor's Island and there are lots of free exhibits there. Walk the High Line; Visit the exhibits at the NY Public Library and sit in Byrant Park when you are done. Take your walk in Central Park, and visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art.. its pay what you wish, You can walk through Rockefeller Center, sit outside or in the concourse. Take a big onion walking tour..informative fun and not expensive. |
The H & H on 46th Street and 12th Avenue is still open for those who wish to make the hike.

You can sign up for OpenTable.com (it's free), and you will get weekly emails on special deals at some great Manhattan restaurants.
You pay $25 for $50 worth of food. Definitely worth looking into for women on a budget. |
