Fredericksburg Texas

I'm looking for recommendations for a B&B early January in Fredericksburg. Somewhere central, don't want to drive anywhere once we get there. We are two British ladies of a certain age who do not want a Romantic Weekend, we are just sightseeing in the Hill Country and trying some Wineries. I've had a look at Fredericksburg B&Bs and Absolute Charm but there seems so much I'm getting confused. Around $100 a night. Any suggestions?

We arrived from Toronto to visit relatives in Houston and spent 3 days in Fredricksburg this October. We stayed at the Absolute Charm property called the Queen Ann B&B. Each room is as shown on their site all quite charming. The breakfast room is lovely, the women who prepared the breakfasts were very inobtrusive early in the morning and helpful with ideas of places to see.The beds are all king size quite high off the ground (if you are short you'll need a running jump) LOL!! the bathrooms large and well supplied.. It is a little out of the town but we (2 65 year olds!) walked it easily even in the 90+F weather. Don't miss the store in town called Rustlin Rob's Texas Gourmet that sells hot sauces and chutney;s etc. They have a large store with ample sampling to help you decide what to bring back home.Hope this helps..Have a good trip

Anyone else?

In the local (San Antonio) paper last week there was an article on an award winning B&B in Fredericksburg... I believe this to be it, A Place In Time.

Gastehaus Schmidt is a reservation service that handles many small cottages and B&B's in and near Fredericksburg. http://www.fbglodging.com/
$100 a night is pretty cheap for a B&B. You might need to go up to $125.

For something close to town, I have heard great recommendations in various local papers for the Magnolia House Inn. They offer a breakfast, which some places do not. My husband and I have always stayed at the Austin Street Retreat on Austin St. which I find to be very charming, but it hasn't been impeccably clean the past few times we went. At Austin St. Retreat, the managers are not onsite, but at the Magnolia House they are. I would expect much better customer service because of this. Good luck to you. Even though Fredericksburg has gotten quite popular it is still a very quaint and enjoyable town.

Thanks everyone. I've had a look at the suggestions but what is worrying me is that all the pictures have big king/queen sized beds which is not what we have in mind. There don't seem to be any twins!

Gertie,

Singles in the US are hard to come by. I remember it was very common when we were in Europe a few years ago. Most B and B's expect people to share the bed or book separate rooms. You might find a bed and breakfast with a suite that includes a queen bed and a twin bed. Maybe try www.fbglodging.com to see if they have something to meet your needs.

Look at Camp David. It is kind of frilly, but they have cottages with king and queen beds and it seems to be in your price range.

Thanks Tulips. That explains things...we were wondering if Texan women all sleep together in these king size beds ;;)

We stayed at Das College Haus B&B when we were there Aug 2007. It is located within walking distance to Main Street. The following link is my trip report:

We are not B&B folks . . when we visit Fredricksburg, we stay at the Holiday Inn, about a mile from Downtown ( so you would have to drive some ) . .

The Hampton Inn seems more central. Anyone stayed there?

Austin Dec 17th, 2007 12:56 PM

Try this site. It tells you if the place is IN town or not. You want something right off the main street. http://www.fredericksburg-lodging.co...se/in-town.asp

Also, you might need something for 3 or more people. Most that "Sleeps 2" means one bed.

Hi gertie,

According to one website the Hampton just opened in May of this year. Because it's on Main Street my concern would be traffic noise. Main Street receives a lot of traffic in general but also a lot of truck traffic so if you do decide to stay there be sure to ask for a quiet room...unless that sort of thing doesn't bother you.

Hampton/Holiday Inns have about half of the rooms with two beds.
