Freaky Friday Rants & Raves 7-7-06

Rant: People who cut off a conversation because they don't like it.

Rave: People who listen to opinions and differences, and accept it for what it is.

Rave: The hundreds of people who have made thousands of posts on this thread in the past 181 weeks.

Is it Friday already??? Still Thursday over here.

Rant: To add to that, people who say a discussion is a two-way street but constantly interrupt.

Rave: This was a short week. Woo hoo!

Rant: I've been tracking the 10:30 p.m BA flight for the past couple of nights. Each night there have been major delays with departure. Tonight the plane is delayed with a 12:15 am departure. I'm starting to freak out people!!!

Rant: I'm in travel panic mode. I hate to fly.

Rave: It's my oldest son's 23rd birthday next week! Happy Birthday my boy! Love Ya!

Rant: I'll be in London on his birthday.

Rave: Was able to avoid a certain drug for a certain problem. A big relief.

Rant: Missing my sons while on this trip. I hope the youngest doesn't burn down the house, lol. I've been busy putting the fear of mom into him over the last couple of weeks!

Rave: Fodorites who put up with my pre-trip questions and jitters. Thanks!

Alya--The postcard project came out pretty well though I still need to collect more cards from less traveled destinations like most of the central US apparently and E. Europe...I did try taking pics but I could never get a good shot of the whole shebang--the maps w/the postcards were too wide, but I did take individual shots of my kids and some of those came out cute

Maybe you can get your dd to go traipsing around the world to pick up the places I'm missing

Greetings all you truly lovely FFR&R'ers ~

Rave ~ Anyone who makes someone happy.

Rant ~ Anyone that would say, do or type something that would intentionally cause harm to another.

Rave ~ The townhouse that DH and I (and a couple paid participants) worked on so hard to make it picture perfect has sold and we close in 9 hours. Whew, one down, one to go.

Rave/Rant ~ In 5 days I turn 39. I have never been flipped out about my age; my view has always been “Wiser with each passing year, bring it on!.” But this time I have been a titch, well, I don’t know. I have to just turn it around, right??!! I have so much. My DH is such a fella, and I literally thank God for each moment I have with him. I’m older, wiser, loved ones are healthy, I have more memories with family, more laughter with friends (including you all!) and I have faith that everything will be as it should be. (I mean, that sounds pretty darn wise right??????)

Rave ~ I hit another bucket of balls this week with DH. I’m gettin’ a lil better people.

cmcfong ~ if you look in before you leave, I wish you a pleasant journey today to Idaho, wear you bike helmet and I will do an “anti-rain” dance in your honor.

To my friend in Georgia - you are an angel.

STW ~ Have an excellent stay in London!

Mimi ~ A big hug!

p.s. I have to tell you that the silly words that many of you entered on that three word story last weekend had me belly laughing out loud like a three year old. Baby squirrels and Yetis and P_M bringing out Muffin from three word stories of the past (at least I think she was from an old story). I was rolling. If laughter is the best medicine, you all gave me enough doses to last me until my eighties. Mille grazie.

wow, lots of you up late tonight.

Rave- having good weather this week. I know Hawaii weather is always "good" but it was really pretty today.

Rant- Younger Daughter home for the summer, and the house looks it. She is still living out of her suitcase, as she's "too busy" to clean her room and unpack, much less help with cooking or cleaning. Think we'll need to have one of those attitude adjustment talks this weekend.

Rave- my cousin (who I barely know)called to let us know his som would be in Honolulu for a few weeks, courtesy ROTC. You know how awkward that can end up sometimes? Well, not only is he charming and smart, but he's adorable as well. Daughter spent 4th of July out anc about with him and friends and asked, " How come nobody ever told me I had a cool cousin?"

Rant: my favorite niece had one of her best friends die this week. Young and with young children as well. The 'Smell the roses' post sure hit home.

Rave: Have had two great weekends in a row, first with my dad and DH, last weekend with my DH. Hoping for another one coming up with his parents before some business travel to Sioux Falls (whoo-hoo!).

Rave: The house renovations are getting down to the manageable stuff.

Rant: We need rain. A lot of it. Badly.

Rant: The left side of my face is numb again. Check for ticks, folks. I've been fighting the aftereffects of my Lyme-ridden little friend for seven years now - it's no joke.

Rave: Little tomatoes have begun to appear in the garden.

Rave: It's lily time.

Sorrow: One of my 16 yr old son's closest friends hit and killed a five year old yesterday afternoon. Little boy was crossing the street on an electric scooter and he came out from behind a parked truck. 16 yr old was not at fault, not speeding. I can't imagine the feelings of either family at this point.

amwosu,

So very sorry to read your news. Many years ago my mom, who drove around for years with an, "I even brake for butterflies" bumper sticker hit a young man, the same age as my oldest brother, on a motorcycle because she didn't see him pull out in front of her car. He died as a result of his injuries. She has never gotten over that tragic accident so I really feel for that young man and the families. Just breaks my heart. >-

I'm at the office and I must get to work ASAP, so I'll catch up and post greetings later.

Rave: HOT DOG, it's been a good week!! I have 2 new trips in the works:

1. 4-day weekend in Portland Oregon, leaving 7/29. Thank you, SW Airlines for the free ticket!! And thanks to Scarlett for all of her help.

2. AAAALOOOOHHHAAAA!! Need any more hints?? DH and I have been trying to decide all year where to go the first week of Oct. We looked at the NW, the NE, and everything inbetween. Then on Wednesday night I was playing on the computer and found that the FF gods were smiling upon me, and there is availablity on AA for tix to HI!! We're flying into Kona for about 5 days, then a couple of days in Oahu and home from there. I've only been to HI once and it was in 1985, DH has never been and this is like a dream to him.

WOOHOO!!

Rant: I'm very hard-pressed to find a rant this week, so I'll post a silly one. Our connections for the HI trip are thru LAX and the flights to HI from LAX are on the dreaded 757!! (3-3 configuration, one aisle down the center) If you frequent the airlines forum, you will know this is the worst configuation in the sky.

Rave: SO WHAT, I'm still going to Hawaii!!

Once again, please forgive me for not reading your stuff right away, but I'll catch up with you later. I hope you all are well.

amwosu--what a horrible story. I can't begin to imagine what everyone involved is going through.

Tiff--happy early birthday!!!

STW--have a great trip!

Rave: With the final decision of honeymooning in Puerto Vallarta, all we have to do now is purchase the package. Hope to do that today.

Rant: Dilemma with getting a passport. With all the other wedding expenses I don't really have the extra $100 kicking around for it. Not to mention, with the trip only being 3 mths away we'd probably have to pay the extra $60 to get it expedited. Uuughhh! I thought we'd be ok with our birth certificates but after reading the passport threads have begun to think otherwise.

Rant: My dad spent the afternoon in the ER weds. but they couldn't find anything wrong with him. He had discomfort in his chest, nausea, stomach pain, sweats and claminess (most of the classic signs of a heart attack) but all his tests showed he was fine. I worry so much about him. He is only 53 and has already had a quintuple bypass and early stages of diabetes.

Huge RAVE: Blues fest in Albany tomorrow. Woo hoo!!! Free festival, and free night at the Crowne Plaza thanks to their rewards program. Future DH and I are so looking forward to it.

Thoughts to all of you going through tough times.

To anyone travelling soon, have a great trip. Happy weekend everyone!

Good thoughts going out to all who need them this morning!

Rave: Looking forward to over night ALONE with DH on Saturday. Thanks to G&G taking the kids.

Rant: People who worry too much about what other people are doing instead of just focusing on being a good person themselves.

Rave: Getting to see the smiling, lovely faces of my two little angels first thing every morning. How could I not be happy after that?! Stop and smell the roses, right?!

Rave: Less than two weeks until we leave for Holden Beach, N.C. Boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, shrimp scampi, stuff shrimp, shrimp burgers...

Happy travels to all.

rave: it's friday!!

rave: short work week this week

rave: i'm tan from last w'end! spent the whole w'end outside. ;-)

rave: learning how to have a relationship with my father.

rave: booked a short notice w'end trip to swanky hotel in toronto w/bf. should be great! (been looking on the canada board, ;-) )

rave: was able to see some fireworks tuesday night when we went up to the roof of our building in new york.

rave: a mother who had 2 daughters that were injured in the london bombing last year. i saw a segment on good morning america this morning. she says they know give out thanksgiving cards instead of christmas, because she is so grateful her daughters were o.k in the end. one daughter is moving forward and getting married, and the other says "she loves who she is today so much" that she still would have done the same thing. how wonderful! this was really uplifting this morning!
