Freaky Friday Rants and Raves, Jan. 28th.
Rave: Great holiday at exclusive little inn but good things always come to an end, do they not?
Rant: Hoping elections help the dust to settle in Iraq so that the boys, ours and yours, can return home. Read that Jan 24, the first day back from holiday, is the most depressing day of the year. Were you depressed on the 24th? |
No, because I had a computer again after being three weeks without. And that's a big rave.
|
Rant: It's 4:40 am and I am sitting in my office, could only get a ride back here after a night out with clients in NYC and not a ride all the way home...
Rave: Cab coming soon to take me to my warm bed... Rant: Partner in my firm wanted me to spend the night with him in his hotel room in the city (I am married and so is he!!!) Rave: all of the partners will not be in tomorrow (recuperating from tonight) so tomorrow (actually, today) will be an easy day! |
Rant: 27 below in the Mad River Valley of VT this morning Rave: 27 below in the Mad River Valley of VT this morning. The sun is brilliant, the sky is so blue it hurts to look at it, the visibility is unlimited, and it's a great day to be alive. |
No Rants today, no raves today, I am neutralized ;-).
|
Rant: Oh it's cold!!!!! :-[
Rave: That much closer to spring 8-) |
Rant: Westin Detroit Airport hotel charges us $99 for the first night we are stuck due to NY weather cancellations -- and $199 the second night we are stuck. When asked why -- "because we can"! After accepting the deal (because we had to), but asking for the General Managers name for a follow-up, the Director of Guest Relations told the head of housekeeping that we would stay over but NOT TO SERVICE OUR ROOM!
Rave: When Connie at LaGuardia's Northwest World Club went out of her way to track down my forgotten eyeglasses from our inbound flight and return them to me as we departed two days later. If you go through the LGA World Club tell Connie "Hello and Thanks" again from me. |
Why do we have dueling Freaky Friday Rants and Raves 1-28?
|
because miss boo-kay wants to be first.
|
Looks like anyone who wanted to be first had almost 3 hours to do it before Buk-It/Bu-kay jumped in. Since when does anyone have a monopoly on thread titles? Damn, it would be quite a slug-fest if one of the "Best Airport for NYC" or "Best way from airport to Manhattan" O.P.s try to claim those thread titles as their own !!
Rant: 15 below last night Rave: sunny today and 15, but the sun makes it look warmer than it is. |
RANT: just when we got rid of the San Jose pshyco, we got a "Jor-in-the-Bucket" competition. Aw, nice!
|
Rant: Just got back from Germany and the Euro ate me alive!!
Rave: I was just was in Germany and loved every minute of it!!! John |
Faina, We may have gotten rid of the San Jose psycho, but those of us in Oregon have a different sort of psycho to deal with.
|
Beachbum,
I agree...It's only taken me about 1 day of posting to figure out the "psycho" in the Oregon forums. Yikes!!! Tracey |
BeachBum, I feel you pain. We even discussed this at the San Francisco get-together, so don't feel alone on this.
|
Beachbum--I was thinking the exact same thing!!! lol!
Tracey--glad you figured it out...I would hate for you to get sucked into it:) BTW...how is Reser coming along? Go have some Woodstocks for me, ok? |
Faina--That would be worth coming to:) I will be in the SF area during our kids spring break...is there a GTG then?
|
MMS, sure! We can organize something! Start a thread when you know your dates.
|
Thanks Faina:) If you still have my address, email me.
|
Sorry, I don't think so... my addy: [email protected]
|
Weeping, I wanna go too !
One of these days I will be in a city where there will be a GTG! I just keep missing them! Or better yet, one of these days we will be back in Oregon ..whoopeee.. Keep smiling, darlin, every state has it's looney ** :) ((D)) ((&)) I can't think of anymore LOL |
((G)) sending a box of Kleenex to Scarlett
|
Faina--You have mail:)
Scarlett--You will just have to plan a trip to SF in March! |
Thank you Faina, dear.
Yes, mms, lets gang up on the Yankee and tell him when we get back from Paris we have to go to SF :D Sounds good to me ! |
Hi mms!
Reser is coming along great - it seems like they've done a lot. They have built these four huge brick columns and have now started putting in the steel structures horizontally to the columns (can you tell I'm not very articulate about describing construction ;) Hmmm, Woodstocks! Still a local favorite - along with American Dream Pizza (I think they may have one of those in Portland now...not exactly sure)). Have a great weekend! Cheers, Tracey |
Tracey--When we were at homecoming, the 4 big posts were there but that was it. DH really wants to buy season tickets, but with the kids in sports we didn't even make it to the games we had tickets for last year. Went on many dates with dh at suds n' suds, lol! We always bring Woodstocks home too and freeze it. American Dream...they had a place up here first. The owners were clients of mine ages ago and I remember them telling me all about the Corvallis plans. Not sure when you were in school, but the "deli" (superdeli) was the great friday afternoon spot. American Dream is in that spot now though. When we go down for homecoming we go to our old houses, then dh's house has a big tailgater, so thats the big stop, then the game and woodstocks.
|
MMS, your lovely letter had arrived. As soon as Fodor's gets uninteresting I'll reply :X
Smooches :* |
Hi again mms,
Ah, suds and suds - it's still there! I was at OSU from 90-95 and I'm not sure if American Dream was there when I first started or not. Lots of new stuff has sprung up over the years. They now have a second American Dream in Corvallis - downtown on 3rd street with rooftop seating - cool in the summer. I'm amazed at how much Corvallis has "grown" over the years in terms of its variety of restaurants - a pretty good mix of stuff that we really enjoy. One of my favorites is Magenta in Cobblestone square (14th & Monroe) - french vietnamese cuisine, with a fantastic bar menu! Now I'm craving pizza! Tracey Hubby |
Faina--Oh but fodors is SO much fun to read tonight!!! It is keeping my laughing!!! :)
|
Any room over here? I can't take it anymore.
|
I was there from '84-'88. Cobblestone square was new then. There was a circle K that had been around for ages and then a new building that was just opening up. Oh, and Clodfelters! We could go there and drink for free...the guys would always send pitchers to us, lol! The rooftop seating at AD sounds great. I think we need to make another trip down. Email me if you like...it is mikliz97atyahoodotcom.
|
Beachbum--There is always room for you! Turn around and we can help take the knives out of your back:)
|
Thanks, mms, the one just below the left shoulderblade is killing me, if the one in the right kidney hasn't already.
Honestly, I do admire your restraint. |
There are no knives in my back but I do feel this strange voodoo kind of lethargy LOL
beachbum, thanks! |
Restraint??? ha!!! I was too busy laughing!!! Not at you though. I think we need a PDX fodors GTG...maybe at a McMennamins or somewhere. I'm sure we could all use a good drink after the last few days:)
|
A drink does sound pretty good about now! Maybe we should schedule a GTG when Scarlett comes to town.
Have a good weekend all. |
