My friend from Northern Minnesota used to go to the Calgary Stampede, jorr, when she was a little girl. She's close to 70 now.

She still talks about the pagentry at times and has very fond memories.

That's nice that you got to do this with your dad. Sounds like something I would like to see as well.

Jorr
How wonderful that you and your Dad spent that good time together! One thing (of many) that I'm sorry for, is that I did not spend enough time with my Mom.

Happy Saturday jorr, your sharing your day at the Rodeo with your Dad sure has brought back a lot of beautiful memories that I had with my Dad. Rodeo's, San Francisco, museums and art galleries, days on various beaches, prowling around Nevada, especially going through the old cemetaries (everyone else stayed in the car, LOL). Thanks for sharing your great day.

Sorry for the late post, but...

I cannot believe so few can find capable physicians with whom you are comfortable and happy.

I realize that I'm in the dwindling handful (less than 6% in the US last I looked a year or more ago)with "indemnity" health insurance coverage, and that I spent my life practicing medicine, but I'm willing to give up first dollar coverage for freedom of choice.

I guess the numbers speak for themselves: you may not like managed care and the ridiculous overhead going mainly to the high level execs rather than docs, nurses, and patient care, but just wait until the government is the only player.

I understand your point, mikemo. But have heard of Canadian doctors who had been here going back home as they'd rather deal with the govt than the insurance companies. There were two Canadian doctors in the small town where I grew up. One went back.

Mike--
This was the the first negative incident w/the private med. practice I go to. I can't blame my doctor--it was his support staff that failed me miserably by scheduling me for an ultrasound on a day when the tech is not there and then letting me waste 45min in the waiting for no reason and no explanation til I asked how much longer I would need to wait.

I normally go to my doctor's main office but due to scheduling thought visiting a satellite office would be my best bet. I was wrong. Had I gone to the main office, I doubt this would've happened. I've been a patient at this practice for nearly 10yrs and am on a first name basis w/many in that office. My doctor is one of the tops in his field and other doctors send their wives to him....I will give them another chance.

I'm curious. As a retired physician, would you have wanted to hear about what happened or would it be better to speak to the office manager?

mikemo Sep 17th, 2005 06:03 PM

I was the managing partner of a large radiology group in Dallas for more years than I want to think about.
The offices we had control over were well managed and seldom had negative issues.
The Hospitals and other offices were a disaster - too much greed.

RANT: My husband called an hour or so ago to say that his father died.

RAVE: His suffering has ended. There will be no more running back and forth for my husband. After this week he can concentrate on getting well.

God be with you and your family, CAPH.

OneWanderingJew Sep 18th, 2005 04:50 AM

Oh, CAPH...Oh, CAPH. I am so very sorry. I hope you, your husband and the rest of the family take solace that your FIL was loved and with family when he passed. If you need us, girl, we're right here.

P_M Sep 18th, 2005 05:41 AM

So very sorry, CAPH. My thoughts are with you and the family.

Fodorite018 Sep 18th, 2005 06:08 AM

CAPH--Sending big hugs your way! So sorry to hear the news.

bonniebroad Sep 18th, 2005 06:08 AM

CAPH, I am so, so sorry about your dear FIL. My thoughts are with you, your husband and your entire family. God bless ...@};-

To those of you who have continued to express your concern for my brother ... thank you from the bottom of my heart.

CAPH52 Sep 18th, 2005 07:04 AM

Thank you all so much.

There really is much for which to be thankful. He seems to have died a peaceful death, at home, with his family around him. They'd just brought him home yesterday morning. So it really seems that he was just waiting to be home. As there was no hope for a cure, and considering his physical condition at the time of the diagnosis, I think the family made the right decision in not putting him through chemo and radiation.

Thanks again. As always, your prayers and good wishes mean a lot to me.

LoveItaly Sep 18th, 2005 10:55 AM

Hello CAPH, I too send my very best to you, your dear husband and all of your family. How fortunate your dear FIL was to have such a loving family. I am glad that he was able to go peacefully. My hugs to all of you dear one.

CAPH52 Sep 18th, 2005 12:23 PM

Thanks, LoveItaly. And my very best wishes to you. I know you're going through a difficult time as well.

LoveItaly Sep 18th, 2005 12:36 PM

Oh CAPH, you have been going through so much more then I dear one. Let me say that I wish my friends family had made the decision that your family did regarding your FIL. The best way IMHO. Do take good care of yourself while you are taking care of everyone else.

Rave: A wonderful DIL who was willing to drive me to the ATL GTG! We had a good time...it was the 1st time we had 'done' anything together without the fellows!

Rant: The person in the room adjacent to ours let his/her alarm clock go off over and over again. We finally got management to do something about it...security actually BANGED on the door awhile before the person was awakened!!

Rave: DIL and her sis helped me pick out a 'hip' outfit!

Rant: Now, I don't have anywhere to wear it! Ha!

Rave: DH finally appears to have the pergola finished and the natural springs that popped up taken care of!!
