Happy Friday Everyone!

Yeah, Jor! Glad you got a good report.

Sorry to hear about your leg Jocelyn. Hope you are on the mend soon!

Go, Bonnie, go!

Rant: The mother board on my computer at work fried yesterday. I'm hoping it's fixed today so that I can get SOMETHING done before the weekend.

Rave: It's Friday, what else can I say?

Haev a great weekend everyone! :)

seetheworld Aug 27th, 2004 05:17 AM

Bonniebroad: walking EVERY day for nine weeks may have something to do with it. You should have some rest days in between and you can do light weights - which helps to increase metabilism and burn fat instead. What kind of surface are you walking on? Are you walking on the days you do your water aerobics? If so, too much!

Rant: People (I guess they are supposed to be my friends) now tell me that because the kiddies are off to college that *I'll be all alone now* talk about pouring salt in an open wound!

Rave: my kids are great people!

jasper Aug 27th, 2004 05:19 AM

rave: got paid today!

rant/rave: vermont road trip fell through, but i'll be going to the beach instead! ((#))

rant: why, oh why couldn't it have been a star trek convention?? :((

good for you bonniebroad! keep it up!

bonniebroad Aug 27th, 2004 05:30 AM

Morning, Seetheworld! It is recommended that you walk every day for weight loss IF you have no problems, obviously. For cardio workout, you're right ... every other day. I think the walking surface may be part of my problem... hilly, asphalt streets. And knee would "tighten" once in a blue moon before I started walking. I think you're probably right...... with that slight knee problem, I will probably need to walk on alternate days. Do you think the indoor track at the Y would be better for the knee? I am just starting there with the water aerobics, don't have a "schedule" yet but will be working one out. Thanks for your reply! :-) (And I meant to say I took Motrin, not Tylenol. A doctor had given that to me years ago when I'd hurt my back.)

gojacks Aug 27th, 2004 05:41 AM

Rant: posters listing all their physical ailments on this forum and asking for medical advice.

Rave: posters giving out advice on what to do. ROFLMAO.

buckeyemom Aug 27th, 2004 05:49 AM

Bonnie-I have had knee problems for years. (Tore my acl skiing.) Anyway, walking on a cushioned track would be better for your knees. Make sure your shoes fit properly, you may need some type of orthotic insole. Either visit a speciality shoe store or a Good Feet Store. You may have to pay a little more for better shoes and/or a custom orthotic. I cannot wear very high heels for long periods either. In fact, my orthopedic surgeon told me not to wear high heels at all.

Try light weight training on alternative days to strenghthen your quad muscles. You may need to cross trains on alternate days ie bicycling, water aerobics etc. If you can take Advil or Motrin it works better than Tylenol and reduces inflammation.

Rave-School started.

Rant-My baby is a big girl now. :'(

GoTravel Aug 27th, 2004 06:03 AM

Bonniebroad, you need new shoes. Lack of support is what is hurting your knee. Sneakers have a short shelf life and asphalt and concrete break down the support.

Raves: It's Friday!

Rants: None.

seetheworld Aug 27th, 2004 06:15 AM

Rant: Not giving medical advice only know from personal experience which I have learned from the trainer at the gym WHO BTW, is also not an MD. I don't run to the MD for every little thing. I am sure Bonniebroad knows when it's time to see the MD, right?

Bonnie - stretching is important (I know there are lots of mixed reports on the subject) but it's part of my daily routine whether I am exercising or not.

I would rest it for a couple of days (I know, hard to stop when you are on a roll) or at the very least cut your distance. Then I would walk the track and see how it feels, check your SHOES for wear as well as your walking form and be careful in the pool. It is easy to get over zealous in the water, even with the resistance, because you don't always feel the pain...until afterwards that is! I agree with cross-training and you are on your way with adding water aerobics to your regimen!

tpatricco Aug 27th, 2004 06:29 AM

Jor, I sympathize about the glasses. With my bad vision, my glasses are over $400! Thankfully I only buy them once every few years (vision still getting worse):(

Jocelyn, hope your leg is better soon!

Bonniebroad - I agree, new sneakers are in order! And maybe an elastic knee brace until the muscles are back to normal strength? Don't want to get out of your good walking habit! You inspire me! I've been sticking to my new gym routine & healthier eating for 1.5 weeks now! Hoping for results like yours! :)

Rave: Weekend is finally here! This week really dragged. And DH & I have Monday off too! Looking forward to Air Show tomorrow, BBQ with friends on Sunday and working in the garden on Monday! ((F))

Rave: No Rants this week!

Have a great weekend! ((B)) Trish

First, I just bought my shoes - was fitted at a New Balance store, by a guy who took a lot of time with me, just about a month ago so I have confidence in my shoes. I don't think that's a problem.

Second, I AM going to start weight-training program next week after I have a consultation with one of the Y experts. I am wondering if the walking track there is cushioned; also, I am taking Motrin. I, of course, know when I need to see a doctor but knee problems are common among active people, and I like to hear what friends have experienced.

RAVE: Thank you, Statia, Seetheworld, Buckeyemom and GoTravel for your replies and support! Much appreciated..... and helpful. :-)

Bless your heart, GoJacks. At least we have you ROFLYAO.... ;;)
