OWJ, my sympathies. I lost two between my two kids. My son always says he's glad I had the miscarriages 'cause if I hadn't, we would've stopped before we had him! Allow yourself to grieve your loss. I took great comfort in knowing it was nature's way of dealing with a problem pregnancy. And we wound up with a beautiful, healthy son two years after the first miscarriage.

My sympathies to OWJ. I know someone who went through many false starts, but now has 4 kids.

Rave: It's Friday with high 60's expected for this weekend.

Rave: Only 36 more days before trip to Hawaii; it's my first trip to Hawaii.

Good thoughts for those who are sick and for mms's son.

OWJ, I'm sorry for your loss.

My deepest sympathies OWJ. A close girlfriend went through four until her Ob/Gyn figured out her blood was too thin. Her husband is giving her heprin shots every day and now she is in her seventh month.

I hope all of our Jewish posters have a wonderful Seder and a happy Passover.

Rave: Just got off the beach because it is 80 something degrees out!

Rant: Running a 5K in the morning and we are supposed to have horrible thunderstorms!

Rave: I'm going to carb load with Budweiser Select

Rave: Carb loading with beer

cd - done is not quite accurate. Functional is! We still have a long way to go until it's a dream room, but at least we can play pool and enjoy the fireplace in the meantime!

LL will get wood wainscot & venetian plaster walls, new lighting (it's in dire need), fieldstone on the fireplace, faux beams on the ceiling, TV & Stereo systems too. Seems endless!

Rave: The beautiful weather here in the Sacramento Valley.
Rant: The darling squirrels who have decided to use the deck as their "bathroom"
Rave: How strong OWJ and her husband have been. I am in awe of them. But you all know that.
Rant: Posters this last week that decided to post very ugly comments about a whole group of people.
Rave: Fodor's deleted the thread.
Rant: All of you that have to deal with losses and health problems and scares.
Rave: How strong all of you are.
Rant: How sad for the children of SFamylou's "friends" that will not be allowed to share in the Passover Sedar dinner SFamylou is hosting.

Mms. My prayers and good thoughts are with you that the eventual news regarding your son will be that all is well with him.

I would like to wish all our Jewish friends a beautiful Passover and Sedar dinner Saturday night.

And for all of you planning trips - may every day of your travels be beautiful and safe.

Rave: All the beautiful people that post on Fodors and share their experiences.

Peace to all.

Tpatricco and CD and all those who are remodeling and feeling like it's endless, I have a Japanese proverb: "House done, life done."

I read that in this month's Sunset as I was feeling discouraged with the never ending amount of work that needs to be done on my new (to me)house.

Rave: DD placed 12th out of 156 athletes in the 100 Yd. Freestyle last weekend at one of the biggest meets in the State! Their relay team took a 1st place in the entire meet. Unbelievable!

Rave: DS and his girlfriend are in SF right now, having a great time!

Rave: Had a wonderful afternoon up at the condo last weekend, taking long walks and watching old movies. The mountains are so beautiful and there is still lots of snow right now.

Rave: Big Rodeo in town this weekend!

Rave: Hope to see Sahara tonight and enjoy the weekend working in the yard. Got a new birdbath and my roses are thriving with all of the rain we've been receiving this year!

Rave: Off to another swim meet right now! Happy weekend, happy travels! ***kim***

My heart goes out to you all who are having some serious trials and a prayer for healing! It sure puts things in perspective when I begin to have a case of the "Poor me's". You all are in our thoughts.

Thank you for the funny posts and laugh I got last week on my scorpion scare. I didn't see them until much later, but got a chuckle out of the image I have of being taught by Marilyn's friends to pick them up. That'll be something fun at our San Antonio GTG. I'll provide the raw materials. LOL

Rave: It's Friday and DH returns for the weekend.

Rant: Broke a tooth last night and had to find a new dentist in our new town. Couldn't get in until Monday but she gave me a terrific tip. For anyone with a broken tooth which has a jagged filling irritating your tongue or cheek, as a stop gap measure until you can get to the dentist, take an emery board and file the sharp edge off. It worked like a charm in seconds. I'm good to go until Monday now.

Rave: The caring community we have here.

May I pose a question for our mixed population bag here? Where I am from it is not proper etiquette for a mother or sister of a bride or mother-to-be to throw a shower for her daughter/sister. Are there areas of the country where it is acceptable practice and common place?

OO: In my part of the country (NY) the mother of the bride does not host the bridal shower. Typically the maid/matron of honor throws the shower, but if the sister is the maid/matran of honor it would be appropriate. As for baby showers, the same holds true - the mother does not hold it. Usually it is the close friend or sister(s) of the women who holds the shower. This has been my experience in the past.

Rave and an update! Had the 2nd opinion and that doctor is not near as concerned as the other. Also have a family member who has DS medical info and is meeting with the head of the pediatric oncology dept at a SF area hospital today and our case. So hoping that 3rd opinion is encouraging like the one today. My poor mind doesn't know what to do...celebrate or still worry, lol! But I will take any encouraging news! Thank you for all the prayers

OWJ--So sorry to hear that. I have lost one before and it is difficult. But we also would not have DS if it were not for that. Just keep having fun trying

OO--I am that school of thought also about who should/should not host a shower. I was always told that no relative should host one, that it was proper to leave that to friends to do. I was also raised though to never wear white before Memorial Day and other such things, lol!

OO, oh no! I am so sorry you fell and broke a tooth! Can I call you snaggle tooth from now on? ;-)

To answer your question, my mom and sister gave me a bridal shower when I lived in Maryland. In more recent years, I've attended baby showers that were given by moms & sisters.
