Freaky Friday Rants & Raves 3-24-06

Rant: Being told to shut up.

Rave: Not shuting up!

CAPH52 Mar 23rd, 2006 07:41 PM

Oh, my! I have a chance to be first two weeks in a row?! I wasn't going to post this soon as certain aspects of the trip are still up in the air. But I can't pass this up!

Rave: We leave for the airport in about 38 hours!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

razzledazzle Mar 23rd, 2006 07:49 PM

Hi CAPH, again I am right behind you!!
Doesn't sound like you have gotten the rental car confirmation yet. I am sorry.

Jorr, I hate the expression "shut up". Really pushes my button.

Rave: CAPH's husband's wonderful medical results and the fact that they are going to Ireland.

Rave: Friend and I are finally getting together for dinner in a week.

Rave: The horrible rain storms have finally stopped and it looks like whatever rain we have will not be bad.

Rave: Grandson turned 15 this week and is such a great fellow.

Rant: Grandson turned 15 this week, it seems like yesterday he was just born.

Rave: Dear friends that have made arrangements to procede with adopting a baby. That will be one fortunate child.

Rave: Finally all the work in my apartment is done.

Rant: Now I have to clean up after the workmen.

Rave: Looks like there will be more nonchain restaurants opening up in my city.

Rave: NetFlix, I am so glad I subscribed to them. What an easy and fun way to watch movies that our local theater never plays.

Rant: Our local movie theater. Almost all of the movies are geared toward teens or young men. And the audiences never know how to be wellmannered so other patrons can enjoy the movie. Not that there are many movies that play there that I enjoy.

Rave: Flowers are starting to bloom and they are so pretty.

Happy weekend to all. May your worries be small ones and your joys big ones.

MelissaHI Mar 23rd, 2006 09:36 PM

My bigger peeve is being interrupted. that must happen to me more often than anyone I know!!

Rant: All the rain. I'm so over it!

Rave: Just booked my tickets for the 1-night charity cruise on NCL's brand new "Pride of Hawaii" ship coming to Oahu on June 4. I've never been on a cruise ship before except to take a tour or eat lunch.....and this will be super new! I am taking one of my friends who is a single mom & deaf--she sure needs a break, and she is super excited to be going!

klr6773 Mar 23rd, 2006 09:40 PM

TGIF! Although,on my work schedule, it's really just Tuesday!

Rant: Got a call from Apartment manager( really nice guy)telling me neighbor is complaining that Frankie barks all day long when I'm at work.Explained Daddy went back to NJ, and Frankie has to get used to being alone while I'm at work...so, to keep the peace,I got a bark collar-the citronella spray kind. well, he either loves the smell of citronella, or just doesn't care about spray, because I came home from work today and it was empty! Now, I have no choice but to bring him to sister's every work day after I drop daughter at school... Ahh..nice all over the map kind of mornings! Don't want to upset neighbors..but I guess I threw $130 out the window on the collar

Rave: Decided to let daughter fly to NJ with my sis next month to visit Grammie and Grandpop...Glad they are willing to pay for her to fly out,as she misses them terribly and the budget doesn't really have much travel funding anymore...

Rave: It was a good first full week for us without the EX here. We're all going to get through it, and I have the last laugh, because daughter is 3 and is such a fun age-and I get her all to myself!

Congrats in advance to all with happy news and my best wishes to those who are going through hard times. Pay it foward!

Worktowander Mar 23rd, 2006 09:59 PM

Rave: Ditto Jorr not shutting up. Good on ya.

Rave: All the good news Fodorites have been getting lately.

Rave: Next Friday I'LL BE IN EUROPE!!!!

Rant: Boss is starting to make backhanded remarks in meetings about a "long vacation coming up" and "while (Worktowander) is off globetrotting." Sheesh - it's two weeks, not forever. And he approved it back in December. What happened?

Rave: I'll still be spending next Friday (and the one after it) in Europe.

Blessings to all...

SuzieTrue Mar 23rd, 2006 09:59 PM

Rave: Leave for the airport in 15 hours.

Rave: Visiting the Everglades on Saturday.

Rave: Getting on Explorer of the Seas on Sunday.

Rant: Only have one week to cruise.

CAPH52 Mar 23rd, 2006 10:02 PM

Rant: Worktowander's boss!

jamaltay Mar 23rd, 2006 10:05 PM

Rant: All you people who keep talking while I am interrupting.

Rave: I won $1000 in the lottery Wednesday.

((D))8-)

Worktowander Mar 23rd, 2006 10:29 PM

Thanks CAPH. I needed that.

And I hope your trip to Ireland is everything you hope for and more.

petitepois Mar 23rd, 2006 10:52 PM

Rave: My first post on FFRR! Woo hoo!

Rave: Great work assignments on the horizon - projects that I will enjoy and that will be rewarding.

Rave: The warm and welcoming FFRR community!

Big Rant: My DH's stepmother is derailing our summer vacation plans. We live in Asia. DH's father will celebrate a big birthday in September and we made plans to be in the US to celebrate it then - along with other necessary work meetings at the same time. Now it turns out that the celebration will be in August!?!?! Stepmother is hysterical at the idea that we might miss the celebration - EVEN if we are there for FIL's ACTUAL birthday. So, we now have to fly to US for the birthday, THEN fly to France for the vacation we had planned a year ago!, THEN fly BACK to the US for the work meetings, and THEN fly home to Asia. I am exhausted and feeling broke just at the thought of it. ARRGGGHHH.

LoveItaly Mar 23rd, 2006 11:24 PM

I must be in a silly mood tonight but all the rants have me giggling. Well first of all none of the rants are about serious health problems so that is great. And secondly it is because the rants are about snarly bosses (Hi workingtowander), family members that drive people up the wall..Petetipois stepmother-in-law (hello and welcome to FFR&R's petitpois), dear Kir's barking pup, the angry neighbor, the complaining apt. mgr, the hassles of trying to keep all the dots in line, MelissaH being constantly interrupted, dear jorr being told to shut up (imagine I know who said that jorr), suzie only having one week to cruise, etc.

Life is good for Fodorites this week because dear friends our rants are all normal, irritating day to day stuff! No horrible devastating problems, horay!! Well not yet anyway.

And may I add a rant: The damn refrigerator. It sounds like a boiler factory when it runs. It has been "fixed" twice, the last time today. Or shall I say it has NOT been fixed twice. It is driving me out of my mind,LOL.

And razzle I am with you, I can hardly wait for Day Light Saving Time! ((Y))

divingaggie Mar 24th, 2006 03:51 AM

Happy Friday, everyone!

Rant: A freeze (in Dallas, no less!) last night killed some of my new flowers.

Rave: Local nursery will replace them! Gotta love it.

Rave: Jorr not shutting up! That is one phrase that is NOT allowed in my classroom--either in English or Spanish (which I teach)

Rave: CAPH and her trip!!! Bon voyage!

Rant but not really: I tried to stay up last night to be the first to reply! Oh well, I'm still pretty much a newbie...I guess I should pay my dues first! :-D

GoItaly--I love when non-chain restaurants open up! Here where I live, they are finally developing the area, and new restaurants are popping up everywhere. Yummy! And I second your rave about no really sad rants. I hope that everyone is finally experiencing happy and healthy days. But blessings and prayers to those who are experiencing hard times.

Melissa--what a great thing you are doing! I've been a single mom, and I couldn't imagine how much harder it would be if I had been deaf. Kudos to you and your friend.

klr--It is so great that you have your daughter to brighten your days. I know that my 3-yr-old son has been one of my biggest reasons to smile since my mom passed. They just have a way with their mommies. Enjoy your time alone. Do something to pamper yourself a bit. You really deserve it after all you've been through.

WTW--I'm jealous! Haven't been to Europe in years. Have fun!

jamal--care to share? ;-)

petite--welcome! It sounds like you've got a mess on your hands. Good luck with all of it! But you know, as long as your husband and his father are happy, that's really all that matters.

Rave: I finally have filtered water! I know that sounds really small, but drinking yucky chloriney water that periodically smells and tastes like doo-doo just wasn't doing it for me! So DH finally installed a filter for the fridge and our faucet. Our cups of tea never tasted so good!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

marigross Mar 24th, 2006 03:55 AM

Rant: WAYYY to busy to plan my July Switzerland vacation properly!! I am swamped with work!!! Have to work tomorrow!!!

Major Rave: My boss is fully supportive of my THREE WEEKS vacation just after the target end of my project (I guess she knows that I will push like crazy to have everything done in June so I can take off) Hope she doesnt turn out like worktowander's boss, changing her mind a few days before the actual day...

Minor Rant: corporate politics are nasty...as much as the other kind!

Major Major Rant: DH puts up with my long work hours without making an issue out of it. I live just seven miles from my current workplace, in my previous job I used to put in even longer hours and I still had to drive 28 miles in awful traffic each way!

girlonthego Mar 24th, 2006 04:02 AM

Happy Friday everyone!!!
RAVE: Leave for Hawaii in a couple of weeks! The kids are so excited!!
RANT: The rain in Hawaii is so bad, I hope the island is still there when we get there! For the sake of the islanders, I hope for some much needed dry weather! It would be nice for us too :)
RANT: kids science tests! See loveitaly, I have a rant that is not serious, but a big pain in the butt! I hate quizzing for this stuff. I have no idea if they are right or wrong. The teachers give study guides but with only the questions! How do I know the makings of cells? So, hopefully they both pass their icky science tests this morning!!
RANT: Early am soccer game. Getting up earlier than normal on Saturdays are killer.
RAVE: Seeing my parents on Sunday after they have been gone three months in FL. Looking forward to that!
RAVE:Caph's big trip!! Blessings for a safe and healthy journey.
HAppy Weekend!

Birdie Mar 24th, 2006 04:05 AM

Klr-I am sorry you wasted your money on the citronella collar. Have you talked to your vet? There is a lot more info available for behavior issues these days. Have you tried distraction? Sometimes if you can distract them long enough they don't realize you have left. TV sometimes works or Kongs that you fill with food. Just watch out with the Kongs. If he is destroying it, take it away. We did have to go into a dog to remove a piece.

P_M Mar 24th, 2006 04:13 AM

Rave: jorr standing up for himself. You go, jorr!!

Rave: CAPH's trip.

Rave: LoveItaly's friends adopting. Anyone we know? ;-)

I decline to post any rants today. :-)

Happy weekend, all!!

semperfid Mar 24th, 2006 04:19 AM

Rave: I bought 3 hurricane damaged houses in Louisiana/Mississippi. I feel so good about this opportunity to help the sellers. Also, because of the low prices I’m happy about the big profit I will make!

Rant: People who complain about the Iraq situation and other things. Don’t they know that, like my business after the hurricane, that good comes out of everything. That’s the American way!

seetheworld Mar 24th, 2006 04:32 AM

Rave: My husband comes home from his trip today. ((l)) ((K))

Rant: I have been sick all week. The penicillin is killing me. :&

Rave: The laughs and people on this board to help pass the time. :)

Rave: I loved the improvements that were made to the Museum of Natural History! The butterfly exhibit was very cool. ((Y)) ((Y))

Rant: The window treatments for our master bedroom will be arriving right about when we are in Florida (that is a RAVE, going to Florida that is). I hope I can have them shipped to the installer instead.

Rant: The decision to stay in our house for 10 more years. That means one more major renovation -- the kitchen and excavation of the driveway. UGH.

Rave: My sister is doing her kitchen first. I will steal every single good idea she has so that my job will be easier, lol. :D Anybody know a good kitchen designer??

Rant: This really bugged me!! I live in an area where we share the roads with cyclists. My youngest son is a cycylist. Yesterday, there were 4 cyclists who were riding together on a heavily traveled 2-lane Route with ditches on either side. They didn't ride one behind the other, they rode 4 across, eating up the entire lane and swerving around to boot. A line of cars had formed behind them, and they obviously knew it. Too many close calls with people having no choice to drive into head-on traffic. They did nothing to accommodate those trying to safely pass. No one was in a hurry, except for the riders, who appeared to be racing one another. Finally, the ambulance, who was also stuck in this mess, had to turn on the lights to get by to the hospital. Stupid, stupid, stupid people! :-@

Okay, on to more RAVES:

LoveItaly's friend who is adopting!!! What a lucky child! ((l))

Caph, have an OUTSTANDING trip! %%-

Good for you Jorr!!

:D Birthday Celebrations: Happy Birthday to my mom ((f)) and uncle((G)) I love you guys!

Happy Birthday to all the other March babies out there! ((G))

Travel Raves: Florida trip 2-weeks from tomorrow! I picked up a Portuguese phrase book and CD for our July trip to Portugal -- HA! My apologies ahead of time to the poor people in Portugal who will be exposed to our attempts at speaking their language!!! :D

Good health and happiness to everyone! Strength and peace to those in their time of need! ((l))
