RAVE: My son just had his TSH level re-checked and it was normal!! The doctor believes he had a viral infection that led to thyroiditis. No meds now, with a re-check in 6 months!! I am so relieved and thankful.
RANT: Year-end and never seeing my husband. I could complain a blue streak, but it pays the bills. I guess I'll take an updated picture of him to hold me over until February - oh ya, then travel season begins... Texas, Montreal, Boston, Texas, Ohio, TN, MS, Texas, CA, Toronto, and lest we forget NJ (did I mention Texas?). *deep sigh and foot stomping* Okay, I feel slightly better. Buffalogirl: I would have done exactly the same thing! How weird of the guy. April: Best wishes to your father for a speedy recovery. OWJ!!!! I knew YOU could do IT! :D :D Good luck on the new bed :) My sons saw Capote and loved it. They said it wouldn't have been "my type of movie" though. PM! How's your husband liking his new job? Happy New Year! ((D)) Caph's going to Ireland! Caph's going to Ireland!....Yippie Wishing every Fodorite a very Happy New Year. May 2006 be filled with travel and excitement! :D |
STW -- Did I miss the end of your trip report to NH? Last you posted, you were wrestling with your Christmas tree. I was curious to hear your opinion on the hotel and the area.
|
No Eva, you didn't miss it - after I wrestled with the tree, I ended up sick. Just starting to get my energy up. I will get it done soon, promise :)

Rave: Christmas on the beach at Isla de Navidad, Jalisco.
Rave: The dogs' homecoming welcome. Rave: Older son arrived early this AM after forgotten PP and AA mechanical delays. Rave: Only hassle with Norton Antivirus renewal in November was having to (re)enter all the CC info. Rave: Good health all around the family, except SO's DD is having a D&C today. Rave: This week's electronic year end IRA withdrawl/witholding paid the req minimum US Fed'l income tax without the hassle of quarterly estimated payments. Rant: Year end stock market fizzle. Rave: Guanajuato in Jan; Monarch butterflies in Michoacan in Feb. and China in Mar/Apr. Rave: STW's son's recovery from SAT - hopefully returning to normal thyroid function. Prospero Ano Nuevo. M |
Rave: Time to spend with family this weekend. Bringing parents some great Chinese as well.
Rave: Time to spend with good neighbors this weekend at my house- they are moving to Miami in April and I will MISS them. Rant: Buffalogirl's driving experience. This is the one main reason I want to move from the area of IL I am in. The driving habits here have become much worse in the last 2 or 3 years with increased density. If I told you the things I see every day, you would think I am exaggerating. Rave: Meeting other Fodorites on Monday in Orland Park. Can't wait. Rave: An old movie I saw last night, it was in about 5 or 6 languages as it traced a violin's passage from place to place. The Red Violin- rent it. Samuel Jackson is one of the lead characters at the end. I loved hearing the distinct German, French, Italian, and Chinese. Not a bunch of slurrers. Very good acting, especially the little German boy in Vienna. Rave: OWJ- way to go. I did two degrees the long way after 40. It's not easy. Rant: They have to put a port into my sister because she is going to get so much chemotherapy- needs a large combo. Rave: We are still all standing. Happy New Year to all and health in 2006. |
Rant.
Mayor of D.C. still pushing for new stadium for the Nationals even with projected cost increases, and the school kids don't have needed textbooks. |
Rave: XMas is finally over ! Rave: I'm going to Amelia Island in two weeks ! Rant: I have to return all of these ugly shirts that people bought me for XMas. Rave : HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

Happy New Year Everyone!
Rave: Spending the weekend away with friends for NYE. Looking forward to lots of eating, drinking, movies, spa time & snow tubing. Rave: Surprise trip to Vegas for business & extended to long weekend with DH later in January. Great mini-getaway to tide me over until next real vacation - St. John in May. Mini-rant: Sip of tea went down the wrong pipe this morning and I'm still coughing and sputtering 30 minutes later! Rave: Sunny & mild (high 40's low 50's) here in NJ! Rave: 2005 was a great year! Started new business and it's going great! Enjoy the weekend, whatever you do! Trish |
JJ5 I loved that movie!! I'd forgotten all about it.
Buff girl- know you did the right thing. Swear the Hoosier will get inbto trouble someday, since he would have stood up to the "idiot". Rave: Wonderful Holiday home and in Ct. Now heading to N.J. to the Hoosier's daughters and families. Are usual extended Xmas-heading to New Years! Going to makde BonnieBroads corn casserole to go with their black bean soup, New Years Eve. Happy New Year everyone. |
it's friday!!
rave: thoughtful, and generous people. rave: a great, and crazy holiday last week! back and forth from long island and nyc, but did it all! rant: my sister had an accident with my car! turning my original christmas weekend on it's head, rave: she's o.k and it all worked out. my boss, also going to long island lent me the company car! rave: off from my second job this weekend, and simply cooking and hanging with my bf. want to see "syriana" or "good night and good luck". rave: got a ton of stuff this christmas! o.k, got that out my system... ;-) buffalo girl...that's smart. i can't beleive these people would behave this way when kids are involved. someone jumped out and screamed at me in my car once too for horning him. glad your o.k. that's one thing i don't miss about long island is the drivers. (have a bit of a "history" of fender benders myself!) everyone is in such a rush. caph...i'll be right behind you. looking at memorial day week for ireland! |
stw, such good news about your son! I'm sure you *are* extremely relieved. I didn't see last week's FF R&R. I'm guessing you must have mentioned his illness then. Which son is it?
Sorry to hear that you've been sick. But glad that you're getting your strength back. Hope it didn't put too big a crimp in your Christmas. What a bummer that your husband has to be gone so much. But to use GT's glass half full phrase, at least it's nice that after years of marriage you still miss him so much! Not much consolation I know! otto, glad to hear you're going to Ireland too! |
BuffaloGirl, I understand how you felt intimidated by this man and you had the kids in your car. I'm trying to put myself in your shoes and I think I would have tryed to passify (sp) him by giving my license number and insurance info. He may have felt dissed when you told him you did not want the police called and drove away. That may be why he got mad.
I don't mean to second guess you but I think the best policy is to notify the police Immediately and let them take care of who's fault it was and to queal any hard feelings or attitude. That's one of the things the police do and they could have cooled down the man. I had a similar situation last summer. The police took care of everything and both the bad driver and myself drove off without any hard feelings. The other driver's insurance company had to pay for all of my damages a few weeks later! |
Rave: Saw King Kong last night...cried like a baby ( 6'5 guy next to me felt better about crying to after seeing me bawl ! ).Great special effects.
Rant: Parents who bring a 2-3 year old to movie like King Kong. Poor kid screamed like crazy while seeing man being eaten alive by worm like creature with big teeth...jeesh... ( Sorry to have spolied that moment for anyone who hasn't seen film yet ! ) Rave: Ready for 2006, travel to Florida and Montreal coming soon ! Happy New Year everyone. |
Jorr: No, he was all hyped up the minute he rolled down his window and blamed ME, even though he was too far over in my lane. Actually, I could tell he was all hyped up before that because even though there was another car coming, he put his car in reverse and cruised backwards pretty darned fast like he was pi$$ed off!
Trust me, the Buffalo police are not going to respond to a call like that in any hurry. The police officer told my husband he didn't respond to the call for over an hour and that they don't normally respond to calls like that. The police in my city have far bigger crime situations to deal with. No way was I going to waste an officer's time over two broken car mirrors! Nope, this guy was trouble and I have enough street smarts to know when to get out outta there...... BTW, how's it going with your mail carrier? Has he backed off? |
BuffaloGirl, my first thought would have been that he's on drugs and to get the heck outta dodge.
|
BuffaloGirl, the mail carrier situation has been resolved.
You handled the situation in the way which you thought necessary. Perhaps I would have handled the situation in the same way you did if I still lived in a city and not in a rural area. I have lived in the largest of cities and also my very rural area. You made the correct choice given how you felt and the circumstances. |
RAVE: Had a great Christmas with my darling granddaughter and her Mommy and Daddy, and the rest of the family. I hope you all had the best holiday possible with your family and friends, as well!
RAVE: Almost all the Almond Squares, Toll House Cookies, Fudge are gone! That means I can't eat much more! :-d (BUT then there's that box of See's Chocolates!!!) RAVE: Our girl Scarlett being so happy in Portland!!! It's so good to see someone LOVE a new home! RANT: My Carolina Hurricanes losing three in a row, and my Panthers stumbling a bit here at the end!!! Oh, the pain ... :-( BuffaloGirl, so sorry for your bad experience! There are some scary people in this world, and it isn't fun encountering one of them! April, glad that your Dad is doing fine! Hope everything continues to go swimmingly for him .... OWJ!!! BIG applause! I ((d)) to you ... I knew you could do it! :-) Melissa, I can't tell you how much I'd love to be in Hawaii with you, girl! Maybe later this year ... ;;) GoTravel, Big smile here :-d just thinking about your kitty with that velco roller stuck on her head! :-) I was teary-eyed Christmas morning watching my Trissie open his Christmas present for the 16th time (he LOVES to shred that tissue!), wondering if he will be here to open another next year. Seetheworld, wonderful news about your son. I know your relief is huge! JJ5, your sister will be in my prayers. It's so hard to see a sibling endure what she is having to.. Happy, happy New Year to all of you here in Fodorville, my good friends. I miss you when I don't chat with you on Fridays! Tomorrow night, I will ((d)) to your happiness in the New Year, all of you! |
Happy New Years Jorr, I am so glad the situation with the postal carrier has been resolved. I am sure you are also!
There are some nuts out there, either mental cases, drugs or to much alcohol. I am glad you got away safely Buffalo Girl, what a scary incident! OWJ, how could you not pass your test with all of us mentally behind you? See, I told you so! Now about that braclet..you didn't tell me! How exciting. OWJ2's watch sounds fantastic also. Aren't presents fun? To everyone that has had health scares, either yours or a loved one I sure hope that 2006 brings everyone good health results. And a special prayer for your dear sister JJ5. Our little kitty (the good one) had so much fun playing in one of the empty boxes that held one of my Christmas presents. Well until the naughty kitty tried to take it over. The little brat! But honeybaked ham gets him sidetracked everytime. Oh, speaking of cats. After the boys went to bed my daughter, SIL and I put all the presents around the tree Christmas Eve. Than when we went to lock up etc. we couldn't find our good kitty Marco. We looked and looked. Marco had crawled under the Christmas tree, guess he thought he would stay there for the night and wait for Santa. We had him boxed in with all the presents. Thank goodness my SIL had enough moxey to look there. They are more work than children I swear. But so funny. Happy New Years to everyone. I hope you all have the kind of evening you want. May 2006 bring everyone many joys, good health and the trip of your dreams. ((R)) |
CAPH, this ordeal was with my youngest son (19) and I posted about it a couple of months back (I think it was one of those FFR&R that was deleted, lol). These new results are a huge relief! If in six months, his numbers remain the same, he will get the "all clear".
Mikemo, I'm aware that there is a small risk that he could still develop the disease, but it's a rather small percent. It's great to know that he doesn't have to face taking hormones at this point in time. Thanks for the "rave"! :D Bonnie, how did your igloo turn out? :) I bet your little one was so pleased to be with you (heck I'd like to spend the holidays with you). otto, I'm sorry to hear of your sister's accident! LoveItaly, do these kitties belong to your daughter? When I read your story about the cat under the tree, I thought of that Chevy Chase movie. Make sure kitty doesn't chew through the wires on the lights!!! :D |
Hi seetheworld, yes the two kitties are at my daughters & SIL's house but guess you can say they belong to all of us, or maybe a better description is that we all belong to them! Nico is a character. SIL calls him a brat, LOL. But Christmas Eve and Day he was unbelievable good. Couldn't believe it. The "good" cat is Marco. But he is smart, or it the word sneaky. He doesn't cause uproars like Nico. That is how he managed to get way under the large Christmas tree. Which he knows he is not suppose to do. We too thought of the light wires but fortutantly Marco doesn't chew on anything. And Nico doesn't get away with anything because he makes so much noise and confusion with whatever he does he gets "caught" immediately.
I have the best of both worlds. I get to love and baby and enjoy them without having to deal with all the hour to hour stuff. Sort of like the grandsons :-P And prayers to you and your family that your son will get the "all clear" in 2006. It sure sounds very good at this point. What a big relief that must be for you, for all of you. I can't stand it when my loved ones have a health problem. Enjoy your NY's weekend and keep up your very positive attitude. |
