Frank Lloyd Wright in Chicago
 

I'm planning on going to Chicago at the beginning of April for a weekend, and I would love to see some of Frank Lloyd Wright's designs and such. I had wanted to take the cruise, but it's not running. =( But I still want to see some of his things. I've read about his house, which I would like to see, although, I hope it's not difficult to get to, since I will not have a car. Does anyone know of anywhere else to see some of his stuff in Chicago, or any other Architectural must-sees?

Take the train to Oak Park and do the walking tour. The Wright Foundation is there and has maps of all the houses in the area. Go by the Robie House near the University of Chicago. They do tours hourly. Cab can get you there.

As an Oak Parker, I would say, Great choice! To find out all about Wright sightseeing, go to the website: www.wrightplus.org/tours<BR>The Oak Park-River Forest area has the largest concentration of Wright houses anywhere (around 25). Most are privately owned, but in Oak Park you can see Wright's home and studio and Unity Temple. There are also walking tours and bike tours where you can see the exteriors of Wright houses. The website has instructions on how to get there. It's easiest if you drive, but if not the Green Line can take you there from downtown. You can also see Ernest Hemingway's house and museum in another part of Oak Park. Another website for the village itself is www.oprf.com. Then go to &quot;favorite links&quot; and scroll down to &quot;tours&quot; (Wright, Hemingway or whatever). Have a great time. April is usually pretty nice here.

The Chicago Architecture Foundation has a variety of FLW tours including some that leave from downtown Chicago by bus to take you to Oak Park and the various sites. Whether on a tour or by yourself, definitely go to Oak Park.
