Frank Lloyd Wright Falling Water Tour Bookings

We will be holidaying in this area in late May. How soon would I have to book tickets for a tour of the property ? Also any suggestions for other highlights, accommodation or restaurants in the area would be appreciated.
Thank you all.

Well, if you have your dates, I would book the tickets now. Why wait? You also want to be sure to visit Kentuck Knob, too.

You should begin by visiting the website of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, which owns and operates the property. There is a wide variety of tours offered, ranging in length from 45 minutes to 4 hours, and in cost from $20.00 to $100.00, give or take. Some tours allow interior photography, but most do not. By all means, do not miss Kentuck Knob, another FLW design that is only about 20 minutes away.

There are numerous dining options within 30-40 minutes of Fallingwater, and the nearest towns in the area are Chalk Hill, Ohiopyle, Uniontown, Ligonier and Somerset, so you can do a search to check out your options. As far as accomodations go, there are a number of nice B&B's, hotels and even resorts in the vicinity. Several that come to mind are the Summit Inn, Watson's Rest, and the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, which offers high-end rooms and dining options. Also check out Polymath Park in nearby Acme, PA, where you can spend the night in an actual house designed by FLW himself.

Hope that is helpful, and enjoy your visit to Fallingwater. It is truly a magical experience.

Oops, I forgot to add one more quick note. If you have any interest, the Flight 93 Memorial is located near Shanksville, PA, which is not far away, and the Fort Necessity National Battlefield is close by as well.

We had no problem buying our tickets on arrival. We stayed in Pittsburg and just went for the day but wished we had made arrangements to stay in the area longer. The Ohiopyle State Park is beautiful http://www.wilderness-voyageurs.com/...FR5inAodSCOYKA

Book asap. That's a favorite time for visitors. We were told that Mother's Day is a bear. Try to get tour tickets for nearby Kentuck (NOT Kentucky) Knob as well. Re-reading above, I see that racegeek mentioned it.

There are some wineries in the general area as well.

We were there last Fall and bought our tickets when we got there. We had no difficulty getting them. However, if you know when you will be there you can order them in advance. I also recommend going to Kentuck Knob as it is very interesting also. We also went to the 9-11 Memorial near Shanksvile, PA. We enjoyed our time in the area. Hope you have a great trip.

I strongly suggest the in-depth tour of Fallingwater. It's $65 each, and leaves earlyish in the morning, and also late afternoon. It lasts a couple of hours, and most important, allows you to photograph inside the property. YOU MUST BOOK IN ADVANCE FOR THIS OPTION! Tour size is limited, and they're scheduled so you don't bump up against the regular tours. http://www.fallingwater.org/82/

It's easy to catch Kentuck Knob the same day. Unless things have changed, they do not allow photos inside the house.

Thanks All very much. When is your Mothers' Day ?

Cranachin Jan 11th, 2010 08:55 PM

Mother's Day is the second Sunday in May (May 9 in 2010).

Note also that Memorial Day (the last Monday in May - May 31 in 2010) is an official holiday (government, schools, most businesses). Because of the long weekend it is a popular travel time, so crowds could be bigger.

Agree with bookhall about the in-depth tour(s). A group of us stayed at Nemacolin and visited FW and KK this way.
I still say be sure to book ahead.
