Franciscan Inn, Santa Barbara
 

My husband & I are booked for 4 nights at the Franciscan Inn in mid-September & now I'm having second thoughts because so many of the posts regarding this inn talk about it being a family place & kid-friendly. A lot of kids are exactly what we DON'T want.
Would appreciate any feedback.

We stayed there a couple of weeks ago. We don't want a lot of kiddies, either -- love them, but we raised ours and want to vacation in peace! That being said, we really liked this place-- extremely convenient-- near to the beach and the trolley tour stops right out front. We had a very informative tour on the trolley. We were right next to the pool, and although there were some kids, it was not overwhelming (and they were "well-managed" by their parents). We definitely would stay there again. The staff is very helpful.

It's a nice, clean place but not very luxurious or romantic. The location is good as well. I would stay there again.

Stayed here once. "Kid friendly" did not equal "full of kids". It was quiet, comfortable, and run by some nice folks. I'm staying here again in early sept.

It's a nice, basic place and they've been doing some renovation over the past year. And for the location, their pricing is relatively reasonable.

Another place worth checking out is the Eagle Inn. It has more of a B&B sort of feel. It's in a charming old Spanish style building, the rooms are lovely, there's no pool (so no risk of kids or adults splashing away), and it's a block away from the beach so there isn't the traffic of Cabrillo Blvd. and it's much quieter. Their rates are also close to the Franciscan.

By mid-September, most kids are back in school so you'll likely find fewer familys traveling with their children -- especially if you'll be here mid-week.

I've put family at both places.

Thank you. We cancelled our reservations at Franciscan, but will probably stay there next year. Decided to splurge on something romantic and on the beach, closer to home--Beach House at Hermosa.
