Foxwoods in Connecticut
 

Does anyone have any information about Foxwoods or any of its affiliates? We are looking for a place to stay between Greenwich and Providence. Is it a nice hotel/resort? We are not interested in the casino. Any other suggestions?

I've been to Foxwoods once (didn't stay overnite but saw the whole place and the casino). On the road there you feel like you are in the middle of some VERY rural town, then all of a sudden there is this gigantic, modern, building. I would imagine it's the most contemporary lodging in the immediate area. <BR><BR>If you're only staying there because it seems convenient, why not looking at Mystic, CT. It is a quaint little town with a few "charming" restaurants and B&amp;Bs.

I had to attend a meeting at Foxwood last year..Although I am not a gambler and was not that intersted in the casino. I can state that I have stayed at hotel rooms all over the world, and the room I had in Foxwood was as nice a room as I have had anywhere..and I mean anywhere. Although I do not plan to return there anytime soon, as it not in my normal glide path, I can say the room was FANTASTIC

There are many nice restaurants also at Foxwoods so you might plan to have a nice dinner and stay overnight.<BR><BR>If you will have more time to spend, but are not interested in the casino, check out the Mystic Hilton as an alternative. That will give you the Mystic area as an option for restaurants, sightseeing,etc. At Foxwoods, the casino is the only option. Mystic is also more convenient to keeping you on track to your final destination. Stonington is also a nice little village along the way althought the traffic in both Mystic and Stonington in the summer can be awful. If B&amp;B's are your thing, maybe check out Antiques &amp; Accommmodations.

I am not a gambler but am curious about Foxwoods. Is there anything to do there besides the casino? Is it a full service resort? Do people ever bring kids there?

What most people overlook at Foxwoods is the Mashantucket Pequot Museum, built by the tribal funds generated up the road at the casinos! It is simply state of the art and fantastic. It depicts life of the Eastern Native Americans throughout history and planning at least a half day there is not unreasonable. The Two Trees Inn is an excellent place to stay if you want to be at Foxwoods but not right on top (literally) of the casinos. The museum is worth going out of your way (nothing like $150 million to make a place first rate!).

I have stayed at the Grand Pequot Tower at Foxwoods for the convenience to the casinos and think the hotel is OK but pricey. (You will NOT get discounted rates like you can in Vegas.) <BR><BR>Foxwoods does have several nice restaurants, but I heartily agree with other posters who recommend staying in the Mystic area, which has considerable charm, instead. You could have oceanside dining, for example. For a list of area restaurants, go to the dining section of Connecticut Magazine’s website -- http://www.connecticutmag.com/hungry/ -- and click on Litchfield County.<BR><BR>If by “Foxwoods affiliaties” you mean the Pequot Hotel Group listed on the Foxwoods website – The Spa at Norwich Inn, Hilton Mystic and Randall’s Ordinary -- I have not stayed at any of them, but have enjoyed dinner at Randall’s, which has a great 17th (?) century atmosphere. The Spa has an excellent reputation and is an upscale property. The Pequots did not develop these properties, but bought them a few years ago.<BR><BR>As for children - Foxwoods has several “virtual reality” type activities (you sit in a chair and watch a movie screen), but I have not done any of them. The Mystic area is much more child-friendly, with the Mystic Aquarium and Mystic Seaport, for example.<BR>
