I've rented from them. Their rates are great. The cars are a little more lived in then cars you get from the big rental companies. They don't have dents or anything they just have a little more wear and tear. If the rate is a lot cheaper than I would rent from them.
Unless they have changed their rental office, don't let the appearance of the office discourage you.

Check the prices on their insurance coverages and add-ons. Some companies advertise low rates but then stiff you with enormous additional charges, especially if you are from overseas and must purchase things like the additional insurance.
Alamo usually has decent all-inclusive rates. Also, check rates closer to your date of travel. I have noticed that LAX car rates have been very low about 6 weeks ahead, lately. Rates do change, all the time. Do not reserve 3 or 4 months ahead without re-checking rates every month or so.

Hi! I recommend Fox when our own fleet is booked - I work for Advantage Rent-A-Car and Fox is OK - good price, slightly older cars than ours, but no problems. Definitely check their CDW rates as you may be required to purchase if your are from overseas. Don't bother with SLI or Personal Protection - as someone in the car rental business - ain't worth it 'hon! (Unless you are a really nervous nellie!) When I'm not on business and have to shell out on my own - I always go for the small guy if one of my company locations is not in that particular city.
Enjoy LA!

Hi Eurock,
You can print your own free upgrade at:
http://www.advantageautorental.com/upgrade_corp.htm
The other thing, if you book an economy, our fleet is so wiped out and we're getting rid of them all that you may (MAY)receive an automatic upgrade to a compact. No guarantee and I surely do not want to get your hopes up - but that's the general concensus.
You may take the vehicle into all bodering states of California. You may not take the vehicle into Mexico without special permission and purchasing mandatory coverages. Even tho' Utah is a border +, don't worry about it and have fun! (I'm management so I officially give you permission to go to Utah.)
The Manager at LAX-Jonus is awesome! If you decide to go with us, send me your confirmation number and I'll put some notes in your reservation "Treat like VIP!"
By the way, what email address did you send messages to and when so I can find out why your queries were never answered! (that bad customer service, isn't it!!!)

Thanks wlomgman - that is the best information I have had since making enquiries on the net!!!
I don't know the address I sent it to - it was one of those - "for customer support" thingys! on the site - click here!!!
I haven't had a response from any of the questions I've sent to any of them - about 4 different companies now!! Thought maybe they weren't interested in taking overseas bookings through the net.
Thanks anyway - you helped heaps with my questions on insurance too!!!

hey wlongman!
Have received an answer to 1 question - I emailed to [email protected] - also printed off my upgrade - thanks very much!!!
Still can't get an answer to my other questions though!! You have AAA discount - do you have a recipricol agreement with our motoring organisations?
Also how far away from Anaheim is your Orange depot? we are at Anaheim for 5 days & want to pick the car up on our last day before heading off for 3 weeks - but didn't particularly want to go back to LAX if I can help it to pick up the car - any suggestions?
You've been a great help so far!!!

We have 2 locations in Orange - at the airport and one suburban location on 1997 Orange-Olive Rd (Smack between the 55 and 57). If you rent from the suburban lcoation as opposed to the LAX or John Wayne airport you will save big bucks in airport taxes, concession fees and recoupment fees.
Sorry, we do not do reciprical agreements with other country motor clubs.
One of the most important things I forgot to ask - are you 25 or older? All car rentals companies will nab you an underage driver fee for 21-24 year olds. (Unless you have someone on the inside that will waive that fee - hehehehe)

From our location on Orange Olive to the Big Mouse is less than 5 miles and pretty much a straight shot. Haven't lived in CA for years now, so not sure what a cab would cost. If you arrange in advance directly with the location, we can usually do local pick up for free.

Hey There - How's my bestest Advantage-Rent-A-Car manager?
Are you still in the car hire business AND in Tampa. We're hitting your beautiful country again in Oct but Miami this time & need a vehicle for 3 weeks.....any ideas will be appreciated. The last hire from Orange-Olive Rd in 2003 went off without a hitch

I will tell you my experiences with Fox: First rental was in Las Vegas. Arrived mid-afternoon-reservation in hand. Economy/compact cars all gone. Got a soft top Jeep at least at the same price as I prepaid. Handled funny on I-15. Thought it was just the short wheelbase Jeep thing. Checked the tire pressures in Barstow, two tires with low air pressure.
Second rental: Arrived at SLC early morning waited next to a pillar in the parking garage for 45 minutes for the shuttle to show up. The car they gave us had slightly less than half a tank of gas but the sheet said full. The tire pressure indicator came on so I drove back to the rental office, got the gas tank confirmed and they checked the tire pressures and found that 1 tire had 90 psi. Got the tire pressures to 36 psi. The pressure light stayed on through the rental but checked TP later and they were good.
Last rental was with National/Alamo got a car with less than 700 miles on it-no license plate-registration paper on windshield. Priceline got that car for $14/day.
