Four Seasons Maui Overrated!
Here's a review I lifted from the "Rants and Raves" section. And you know what? I totally AGREE with him!:
[This hotel is totally overrated. I have stayed at the Ritz on the island as well and much for it to the Four Seasons. Most rooms look out at other rooms -- water views are scarce here. The pool is nothing great. I felt like I was at a condo complex in Southern California. I don't care for the location of this hotel. Wailea is dry and plentiful mostly in strip malls and bad chain restaurants and more than an hour's drive into Lahaina. I actually like the Kea Lani suites (next door) better than the Four Seasons - rooms are nicer and views are better.}

I have just returned from Four Seasons Maui and I agree with you exactly!!!!!!
I could not wait to leave - 5 star my - - -
My favorites ....
Four Seasons Hualalai - slice of heaven
Ritz Kapalua - superb service beautiful & rate is usually good
Kahala Mandarin Oriental on Oahu is impressive

I loved the four seasons on both Maui and the Big Island. I hated the Ritz on Maui. But if you want a GREAT Hawaii vacation I suggest staying on Lana`i. I especially love The Lodge at Ko`ele talk about paradise. If you like crowds, nightlife this would not be the place for you.

Travel is so different for every individual....we recently returned from 5 nights on west maui at a cheap place so we wouldn't have the resort vacation, and get out to see things, again, our 3rd trip there. Then spent what seemed to be 4 magical nights at the Lodge in Lanai---incredible, but when we got to the 4S Maui, we really felt like we were home - second stay there. It is really what you make of your vacation. I like to explore and see new things-my husband would have spent the whole time at 4S.....he is however grateful for the adventures we've had instead of staying at the pool. For me, I love them all, the mediocre condo to 5 stars. But for us 4S will always be a piece of heaven and a feeling of coming home.

Our stay at FS Maui had a lot of pros and cons...My husband and I agreed if we went back we would try the Kea Lani (we got married there but stayed at FS). The service was VG overall, but we are early risers and wanted early maid service. We had to request this 3 times before they cleaned our room before 1pm! - way too late IMO. We also had bugs in our room (small ones - but a lot of them!!!). They said it was between exterminator visits and took care of it right away. These problems were pretty minor and handled quickly, however for the expensive price we paid and the raves for this hotel they were totally unexpected and unwelcome.

We just returned from our honeymoon on 3 island and our favorite was the KEA LANI. We walked over to the 4 Seasons and Grand Waleia and we weren't impressed we were very happy with our decision. PS- The Mandarin Oriental in Oahu is AMAZING. We also stayed at the princeville on Kauai which was nice.
