Hey Adam,
Don't get excited, I'm just stating a point for arguments sake. Its the litigator in me. Furthermore, I like nice views and think it would be pretty cool to have cocktail watcing the waves at sunset, but I don't think its worth the Four Seasons premium for the priviledge. Mark

Hey Adam:
your shart man syndrome, or whatever brand of inferiority complex you've got, is showing through pretty clearly.
Were you beat up on the playground a lot as a kid?
Always the one picked on at school?

HERE'S AN IDEA! SPLIT YOUR TIME BETWEEN THE TWO HOTELS AND MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY!

PS - SPEND AN EXTRA NIGHT AT THE KEA LANI THOUGH.

By the way - whoever said that the famous people always stay at the Four Seasons rather than the Kea Lani obviously doesn't know what they are talking about. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Rosie O'Donnell, and countless others have stayed there in the last year. Nice try.

My family and I just stayed at the Kea Lani during Thanksgiving for 10 days. If you are traveling w/ kids I would stay at the KL. The suites are beautiful. The bathroom is too die for! We had no trouble w/ service. Food was excellent . Try Nick's for a romantic dinner. Yes, they do charge extra for sometimes. However, you are in pardise- go and explore. Snorkle, dive, drive to hana, so much to do.... I can't wait to go back. YES...I will stay at the KL.
ENJOY!!!!

I posed the original question and it still gets replies. Pretty cool.
Since this "discussion," I added Kauai to the mix. Now its a two-island trip. I'm set on Maui, but the current question looms-Hyatt or Princeville? I'm leaning towards Princeville. I appreciate any further comments.
Thanks for everyone's thoughts. Mark

Mark- I definately recommend Kauai, the Hyatt was wonderful. We split our trip between Maui and Kauai and wish we would have spent the entire time in Kauai. Enjoy your trip. -Brittany

Having skimmed the above and having just returned from the four seasons, to me they win hands down. It is smaller and more intimate and for the person who commented on pineapple at Kea lani, well we enjoyed fresh fruit in the morning and popsicles in the afternoon with cold towels, evian spritz and sincere friendliness. Someone mentioned split the two to decide...we did that same thing a few years ago with the Grand Waillea and know there is only one place we will return...check into the 5th night free, may still be available. We've payed topdollar for prime ocean front and are now content with garden view rather than stay somewhere else.......We love the Princeville and the north shore!!!

Brittany,
I'm curious as to why you'd spend all your time in Kauai. I heard (and read) they are both great, but for slightly different things. If you have some good stuff about kauai, please cue me in either here or at my home email address.
Gyppllou or whatever,
Since I'm going in August, that 5th night free-promotion is out, as is mountainside (comes with breakfast and car) and FS does not budge. We're on the same wavelength, though: Four Seasons and Princeville. Mark

Jan, you are quite correct. Not only have celebs stayed at the Kea Lanai but they have stayed at the Grand Wailea as well! And guess what? Years ago BEFORE any of those hotels were built, many celebs stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Kaanapali which was THE place to stay at the time -- but no more!!

I hope my reply did not seem as though I felt because a celebrity stayed at a particular place, then that was the one I would chose. All that tells me is we are probably paying too much money to stay there. Just pointing out the fact that celebrities don't just flock to one resort and that their choice of accomodations should not direct you to where you should stay.

Also agree with you 100% about that as well! I couldn't care less WHO stays there; not even interested in seeing any of them, quite frankly -- AND, they are NOT the barometer and final word of good taste either!

Hi Mark,
even if I have stayed several times on FS on some other spots, I have also been to the KL. And I was with my girl there. We had an absolutely fabulous and romantic time. I liked to have those spaciuos rooms there.
But in your case, why not take the Kea Lani Villas. They are right in front of the hotel between pool area and beach.
Even with private plunge pool.
I always found that to stay at a FS is
indeed the right choice for us, but at
KL your kid we have much more fun -that is for sure. And therefore, if you want to make a remarkable vaccation for your kid - just choose the Kea Lani - no doubt about it.
Finally I found the Kea Lani one of the
beautifulliest resort on Maui, as I have been on my trips to the Westin, Marriott, Hyatt and the Intercontinetal already.
Please excuse my not correct engl.
writings, as I am german.
