Four Favorite U.S. Hotels

I had the good fortune this week to stay at the Stanford Park Hotel in Menlo Park (Palo Alto), California. Really enjoyed my brief stay there and its warm and comfortable ambiance -- the opposite of most chain hotels -- reminded me of three other favorites across the country:

Washington House Inn - Cedarburg, Wisconsin (just north of Milwaukee)
Wayne Hotel - Wayne, Pennsylvania (western suburb of Philadelphia)
Siena Hotel - Chapel Hill, North Carolina

If any Fodorites are familiar with any of these hotels, I'd like to see their recommendations of other similar ones across the country.

We love Kimpton hotels. Reasonably priced and boutique like. Join their In Touch loyalty program. We have stayed in 8 of them year with great stays in all.

A fav of ours is the Hotel Sofitel in DC. Excellent people and fine accommodations. They even surprised the kids with special items.

I am familiar with the Stanford Park Hotel (I live nearby). If you are ever back in the area and want to try another lovely, low key place, Sand Hill Rosewood is a spectacular hotel. Madera,, their restaurant is very good.

Stanford Park Hotel is part of the Woodside chain of hotels. I have stayed at two of their other properties.

The Monterey Bay Plaza Hotel is right on the bay in Monterey and is a quiet, refined sort of place.

The Bodega Bay Lodge holds a special place in my heart. I used to go there twice a year for years. It is right on the ocean just south of Bodega Bay. The rooms are lofty and the views are very nice. I am not sure about the restaurant anymore. it used to be spectacular.
