Hi everyone

My wife and I are traveling to Boston on Sept . 10 , and after having a long overdue dinner with our niece we will drive down the next morning to the Maine coast and have 4 days to spend there , heading back to Boston on Sept.15.

We are looking for a town or village with a place to stay that would put us within a few hours of a few different picturesque destinations . Also we are not opposed to staying two nights in two different locations if it makes sense . We would like to be on or near the water and enjoy some casual sightseeing , a little shopping , maybe a winery or two , and hit some great restaurants. We are not big hikers ( knees and feet issues) and would like to keep it to a slower pace. It is a big birthday for my wife and we will also be celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary.

Is there somewhere that you would recommend that captures the flavor and spirit of coastal Maine ? I would really appreciate any help that could help us put together an itinerary for our short stay.

Portland has a pretty tight food scene.

I second the White Barn Inn.

Kennebunkport is a lovely area and eating lobster rolls, lobster, blueberry pie and blueberry ice cream, is to be had all over.

Mabel's and On the Marsh come to mind that we had good meals too.

I vote for the mid-coast region. For a small village we liked damariscotta. Good location for visiting Rockland (winery and two museums). We did vrbo but a friend likes the Samoset. Our favorite lobster shack will still be open. McLoon's. We have not dined at Primo.

In the mid-coast area we really like the Spruce Point Inn in Boothbay Harbor and their 88 Restaurant would be lovely for a special dinner.

On the southern coast, we really enjoy Ogunquit.

Camden is a cute little town with The White Hall Inn. We stayed there on our first anniversary. (We had to stay in an auxiliary building because we couldn't afford the main Inn.) On our 30th anniversary, we were able to find ourselves in Camden once again and were able to stay in the main house. What a fun place to reminisce those first years! Enjoy your trip.

My husband and I visited 2 years ago and stayed in downtown Portland which was really nice but I wish we had stayed out on the coast. As a kid my family use to vacation on Cape Elizabeth which is outside of Portland. If you have the time, drive out to Two Lights State Park and go to the Lobster Shack at Two Lights for yummy lobster roll.
