Four Days celebration our Anniversary.

My husband and I are looking for a place to celebrate our anniversary. We only have about 4 days and would like suggestions. The New England states are my first choice but we plan to do that next summer when we have more time. A friend of ours suggested Santa Fe, NM. and I also thought about the Grand Canyon. We are open to suggestions. I love photography and this is my main focus. My husband's interest is mainly sports but we both like site seeing and I like art. Any suggestions of fun places to go for a short trip would be appreciated. Also if anyone has information on where to go and what to see in Santa Fe please send suggestions.
Thanks,
Anne

We recently took a trip to Arizona. If you're into photography, go to Antelope Canyon in Page. They also do a rainbow bridge boat tour out of Page (half and full day). My pictures are incredible. You can drive to the Grand Canyon from there and could maybe do Sedona too. It was a beautiful trip! Let me know if you have any more questions.

When would this trip be? Seaons will impact what you can do as far as outdoor activities etc.

Do you like hotels, motels, B&B? How much do you want to spend per night? Simple or fancy?

Have you been here before or is this first trip?

4 days - is that arriving day 1; day 2 & 3 for activities; day 4 departure? Are you flying into ABQ?

Give a bit more info if you can. Also, check out threads on here [type santa fe into search box] or go to destinations at top of page and find the Fodor's info on Santa Fe.

You must plan a visit to Red River. Beautiful scenery and close to the Gorge Bridge - amazing site. Much to see and do around the Enchanted Circle. While in Red River, stay with Red River Real Estate - and be sure to mention its your anniversary. Great folks who take amazing pride in their service of their properties and their guests!

If you've never been to Santa Fe, you should come. It's beautiful here, and it's the most like leaving the USA without having to leave the country. Different food, different architecture, different languages, a living Native American culture, there is so much to recommend it. If you're here in late Sep-Oct, you'll see our fall colors, also different from the east, mostly golden aspens that light up the earth when you walk through. Great wine and chile fiesta end of September, along with the High Road to Taos studio tour - great way to buy art direct from the artist and see the srudio too! Come and see for yourself...and happy anniversary!

santafe - I am thinking of going there for our 20th. I was there as a teenager, but I don't think DH has ever been. Definitely a different cultural experience for us.

I was looking at some of the top resorts in the city, but maybe you could recommend a good, small, high-end B&B. While we would fly into Albuquerque and drive up there, I think we would prefer staying in town - somewhere close to good restaurants (DH is a foodie/wine fanatic), sights, and museums. Also - just love hanging out, drinking wine, and people watching.

Any suggestions?

Grcxx3 - how much per night and would you consider luxury hotels?

Debit - maybe $250-350 a night, just depending on where it is, I guess. So maybe that does fit into the "luxury" category.

I looked at a few resorts in town (heaven help me now - cannot think of names) - but they were rather big places....100+ rooms. I think DH would prefer something smaller, more intimate. And hey - access to a spa would be good for me!!!! :)

DH is a big food/wine guy - so a couple of good, nearby restaurants would be important to him. We don't know much about the SW culture - but are always interested to learn.

Also -we are both geologists, so any close-by (1-2 hour drive) sights to go to would be great. As much as I love art museums, I really like going out and looking at rock formations. Okay - I'm a rock nerd.....I'll deal with it!!!!

Our time is short - mid/late November for only 3-4 nights. (Have MIL taking care of the teenage boys....and I worry about how long they will survive!!!!)

Does that help?????

PhotoNoni - sorry for hijacking......but maybe you'll get some good info, too!!! :))

I haven't stayed here, but this is really nice looking and is small: http://www.elparadero.com/

I would check out tripadvisor or a B&B guide online. There aren't a lot of B&B's in Santa Fe, so you should be able to find something to your liking.

Tent Rocks is calling your name! Bandelier too. Lots of great rocks.

Rates for luxury hotels/inns will depend on the time of year.

Here are some of my favorites that are small, luxury stays:

Inn of the Five Graces

El Farolito

Inn on the Alameda

La Posada (has a spa on site)

Inn of the Anasazi (has a spa on site)

Also, if you are interested in renting a small house you will have many choices there as well. We've used vrbo many times and have a couple of favorites we go back to again and again.

Ten Thousand Waves is the spot for a relaxing spa visit. The Japanese environment is very calming and beautiful. And, the treatments are world class.

Grcxx3: November should be slow enough in SF that you CAN stay at a luxury hotel, even in a suite maybe for your 20th, and have it be affordable. Tourist season ends mid-October, and rates drop all over town, especially this year. Should be specials listed soon. Look for inclusive property, don't be nickeled-and-dimed by parking, phone, resort fees. Find a fireplace, so cozy to cuddle up with partner in the Santa Fe way. And do stay in downtown, much nicer to be able to walk all over if you like, and there are many good small hotels near the plaza, Canyon Road and many pretty restaurants.
