Four Corners

Anyone been to the four corners? Where exactly is it and how to do get there? Going from AZ to CO and want to see the brass cap. Thanks.

We've been a couple of times. Kids liked standing in different states while we took a picture. You ONLY need about 15 minutes to visit.

The marker is reached via US 160 from Cortez, Colorado, or Mexican Water, AZ.
If you are in Shiprock MM, drive along US 64 west to the intersection with US 160 and turn north a few miles.

There is not much there except for a glorified surveyor's marker.

I have heard that the Navajo Nation has imposed a fee if you want to actually stand on the marker, which I find to be ridiculous. But I suppose the Navajo have some kind of legal title to the land and can do what they wish.

There is not much there, so don't expect any carnival rides or hot dog stands.

Actually, while i don't recall hot dog stands, they did sell delicious Navajo Frybread, sno-cones and the like. There were also stands of jewelry and pottery for sale, making a nice break in our driving day.

We've stopped a couple times on our 8 out west trips. Touristy? Maybe, but we ARE tourists. Kids especially love it. And where else can you put a limb in four of our most beautiful, western states at one time? ;)

As Bob pointed out, there is a fee. I think we paid $4/person last June. It's in the middle of absolutely nothing, but if you'll be close, why not stop? Hokey? Sure, but, as Ellen said, there is no other spot where 4 states meet. Also, yes, the frybread is great! And the jewelry prices were really good for soveniers.
Have fun! RBS
