Four Columns Inn/Newfane, VT

Has anyone stayed there? Any opinions? We are on our way there tomorrow from NYC for a four day stay. I would love to hear comments and suggestions about what to do in the general area (i.e., quaint towns, etc). Thanks so much!

We haven't stayed there, but we had two wonderful dinners there in the last two years. You are close to Brattleboro where there is a wonderful (very small)"dinner" called TJ Buckley's; get reservations there if you can. You are close to Manchester and outlet shopping. Right next door to the Four Columns in the Newfane Inn which always was wonderful too, but I haven't been recently. If you are hitting the area at the right time for Brattleboro's Winter Carnival, be sure to take in the ski jumping competition, and have some "sugar on snow" (hot maple syrup on packed snow).

Let me clarify a few things: TJ Buckley's is a diner, not a dinner; next door to the Four Columns IS the Newfane Inn, and the ski jumping competition is for professionals; please don't attempt it. Sorry for the sloppy typing!

Meredith, thanks so much for the information! I greatly appreciate it.

On the main street of Brattleboro is a shop that carries antique buttons and fabrics; it's very interesting...also on the same street as T.J. Buckley's, mentioned above, is another restaurant; I can't think of the name, but it's a man's name...it's excellent.

We stayed at the Windham Hill Inn, not far from Four Columns, for a few days last summer and enjoyed visiting the well known Vermont Country Store. Haven't got my map handy to tell you exactly where it is, but it was a pleasant 30 minute or so drive away - I'm sure they'll have a brochure at your inn. We were pleasantly surprised by the nice lunch we had at the Country Store's restaurant.
