Never been to Fort Worth before. Interested in some suggestions on what to do? I'm over 40.

I would suggest starting with the big two museums. The Kimball for classical art, and the Amon Carter for art of the American West. Also if you're in town this weekend, and are willing to pay, Bob Newhart is doing a standup show at Bass Hall in Sundance Square, which is a very nice area for restaurants.

Can highly recommend the Worthington Hotel in Downtown Fort Worth, excellant hotel top to bottom. If you want to get that real western flavor, if the rodeo is in town don't miss it. Billy Bob's is a great (and BIG) dance and drinking bar/club, and the Stockyards are not to be missed.

Hi, the museums (the Amon just reopened, and the Kimbell is always good) are a great start. The Stockyards is touristy but exactly what you expect from Texas, with real cowboys _ if you don't want to see a show at Billy Bob's, you still should wander in to see it, it's more than a bar. The zoo is fun, especially if the weather is nice; the recently opened Texas Wild! exhibit, though controversial, is supposed to be interesting. <BR> <BR>If you'd like a quiet drink, the Grape Escape wine bar downtown is good, so is the bar at Angeluna also downtown. Either is good for the over-40 crowd and also good for solo diners. Bass Hall probably will have a concert or ballet or something worth seeing. As for restaurants, if you describe what you'd like I can narrow it down....

The museums are great as listed above. Pass on the Stockyards. Don't miss the parks and Japanese Garden. It may sound silly, but the zoo is actually pretty good. Don't forget to do a quick stop by the Water Gardens dowtown. If you like archictecture, check out the Faye Jones Chapel which you can see right off IH30 ( a large version of the Thorncrown chapel in Eureka Springs). Breakfast at the Cactus Flower, lunch at Paris Coffee Shop, and dinner at Uncle Julio's. Walk around downtown at night (much improved and safer than it used to be several years ago. I hope you have a couple of days.

Highly recommend some good ol' Texas BBQ and wandering Sundance Square downtown one weekend night. Ft Worth has done a very nice job of revitalizing its downtown -- thanks to the Bass Brothers. (coming from a Dallasite who is still disappointed at what's not there every day I drive downtown to/from work). Ft. Worth is a very laid-back city with nice people. Glad you're going to experience it.

I personally really enjoy the shops and art galleries in the stockyards area, but then I am also a fan of western art, so I am a little biased. We really like Riscky's BBQ, especially the beef ribs. Billy Bob's is worth a visit, just to see how over-the-top it is if nothing else! <BR> <BR>Kimball Art Museum is a must, as is the Japanese Garden. (Bring some extra quarters to feed the koi!) <BR> <BR>Check the calendar of events to see what will be going on while you are there. Fort Worth has some excellent street festivals, like Main Street Arts Festival, Pioneer Days, and Mayfest.

Betty - <BR> <BR>Don't listen to Steve, do NOT pass on the stockyards. They are worth the trip. Joe T. Garcia's is a great Tex-Mex restaurant near the stockyards with a Mexican-style courtyard. Take a drive through the TCU campus.
