Jacob, Dallas and Ft. Worth are pretty close to each other. You could stay at one and travel to the other, depending on whether or not you have a car, etc.

Tell us some of the things you like to do...Maybe someone can give you some ideas!

Dallas is larger, more of an urbane feel and except for a couple neighborhoods (Oak Lawn, West End, Deep Ellum)pretty a much cookie-cutter chain store type place, and traffic is horrendous. Fort Worth has a more historic ambience and great museums (including the new Art museum that is getting rave reviews). I'd spend a day or two in Dallas and the rest in FW. You can stay somewhere in between if you want to unpack only once.

You can navigate fairly easily between the two cities. You could stay somewhere in the middle, perhaps in Arlington, and drive to either place in under an hour. If you want a nice taste of America, I'd suggest taking in a baseball game at the ballpark in Arlington if you are in the area.

I also suggest the JFK museums in Dallas, Deep Ellum for nightlife and live music, West End for nightlife and food. Fort Worth has the Stockyards, lots of fun. In my opinion, a visit to Fort Worth is not complete (especially for a foreign tourist) without an evening at BillyBob's for live country music.

Happy Travels in the US!!

I agree with Seamus, sorta...
Dallas and Ft. Worth are just very different.
Some people prefer one, some the other.
Dallas can be cookie cutter outside the downtown/uptown/Highland Park areas BUT so is Ft. Worth once you leave downtown/Stockyards/Zoo it is not nice at all. AND Ft. Worth has few decent hotels (IMO) Both cities have something to offer and I would suggest you stay near downtown Dallas and visit Ft. Worth
via rail.

If you're looking for that "old west Texas" place, then Fort Worth is definitely better for you. The Stockyards is always fun to go see, especially with the daily cattle drives down Exchange Ave.! The cultural district has some awesome museums (Kimbell, Modern, Amon Carter, etc.) and is a pretty place to walk and enjoy the parks. Downtown, Sundance Square has some excellent outdoor festivals, restaurants and nightlife. I'll agree that there are not many upscale hotels in FW, but there are plenty of mid-price places (Fairfield Inn, La Quinta, etc.) that are clean and comfortable.

Dallas is better if you want a big-city feel or are lookinf for world-class shopping and local music. Deep Ellum and Greenville Avenue have tons of bars and are packed on weekends. There are so many malls and shoppin centers in Dallas that you'll lose count! Plus, the JFK Museum, World Aquarium, and Dallas Museum of Art are all worth a visit. (I will agree that traffic can get pretty bad in Dallas...)

SO, which one do you like?
