Fort Worth on Sunday?
 

I will be in Tioga, TX (north of Denton) on Sunday morning and flying out of DFW on Sunday, August 3. I was thinking of spending the afternoon at one of the Fort Worth museums and then getting something to eat at Joe T. or at Esperanza's Bakery before my 7:30pm flight. Any thoughts on which museum? Any suggestions or comments? Thanks!

"The Modern" is the newest museum that just opened this summer.
All of these museums are open from 12:00 pm-5pm.
As far as Joe T. Garcias....there is a popular website for the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Their website is www.guidelive.com. You can find info on Joe T Garcias. I personally would skip it not the best Tex IMHO. Guidelive can give you some excellent suggestions for Tex-Mex.
I hope you checked the weather as it has been very hot lately here..so dress to be cool.

The Kimbell currently has the "Quest for Immortality" Egyptian exhibit on right now. I saw it a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. Admission is $16 for adults and it includes an audio tour.

The National Cowgirl Hall of Fame is also in the Cultural District. If you're into horses and cowgirls, it is really nice! (I expect that you're looking at horses in Tioga, right?) The admission is only $5 and it's well worth the price.

There's a really good sandwich deli in the area, too. It is The Great Outdoors, and it's on Camp Bowie.

Plan to leave the cultural diustrict about 6:00 PM to make your 7:30 flight, or about 5:30 if you have a rental car to return.

While Joe T's is not the best Tex Mex ever, the setting is lovely if you sit outside. That said, you should come for an early brunch on Sunday because it gets hot FAST.

The Botanic Gardens are also in the museum district..they are world class, in my opinion..reminded of the one in Stanley Park in Vancouver. Worth a visit if you have time and a camera!

Lucky you. In a quarter mile area, you will find museums designed by three of the 20th century premiere architects: Lewis Kahn (The Kimbell), Philip Johnson (Amon Carter) and Tadao Ando(The Museum of Modern Art).

My personal favorite for both the architecture and the art is the Kimbell so I'd start there. The permanent collection is small but superb and can be done in about an hour. The Egyptian would take at least as long.

Next I'd jump to the Modern. You may not like the art but the building is a winner and has a serenity typical of Japanese architecture.

You should have some time for the Amon Carter but if you don't you'll have something to look forward to for the next visit.

I'm from Massachusetts but have a son in Denton and my wife and I couldn't imagine visiting him without a visit to Fort Worth for the museums and/or the botanic gardens and/or the zoo.
