Unfortunately, the hotels in FW are either in the downtown area, or along I-30. There is not a hotel in the museum district. Trust me, if there was one, it would be PACKED during the Stock Show!!
You can check the T to see if the bus runs from a hotel to the area, or you can rent a car. http://www.the-t.com/

The Residence Inn Cultural District is not within walking distance, but it is less than five minutes away by car. The hotel provides complimentary shuttle service within a five mile radius. I have stayed there and it is a very nice hotel, much nicer than the average Residence Inn. I didn't actually use the shuttle but I saw others use it.

Just as an aside, a couple of years ago a guy I knew was planning to develop the old Osteopathic Hospital site as a hotel...I thought that would be a great location. (Also close to the Will Rogers, etc.) But alas, he sold the property to UNT, so no hotel.
