Fort Smith to Memphis roadtrip.. need advice!
We are 2 guys going on a road trip to Memphis from Fort Smith , AR, for a week in late July.
We are interested in Memphis BBQ, History, Nature, Ghost towns etc... I have never been to Memphis but eaten their BBQ...I am a BBQ fan! We might stay in Memphis 3 days and drive to nearby towns and stay 2-3 days (Nashville, Memphis suburbs with some hole-in-wall BBQ !!) What can you guys advice...? Thanks Kris |

Are there any Airplane boneyards or Airplane museum in the area? Any good train spotting locations? |
US 51 between Memphis and Dyersburg is great for train spotting and hole in the wall places. https://www.amtrak.com/ccurl/602/640...oute-Guide.pdf
Amtrak still runs the 946 mile "City of New Orleans" 7 days a week. When it is on time, the southbound CONO arrives in Memphis between 6 and 7 AM. The Memphis station is also the police station. Across the street is the Arcade Restaurant that was a hangout of Elvis. |
Awesome Tom,
Any freight trains or Stacked ones? Any old steam engines? |
For a steam engine you'll have to go to Chattanooga or Dollywood. http://www.steamlocomotive.com/lists...y=usa&state=tn
The route that the "City of New Orleans" follows is owned by Canadian National. Lots of freight on that line. |
