We've been to Pompano Beach several times. (Just North of FT Lauderdale).
Our childern were very young then but have grown since- and we will also be there in June.
We are planning a trip to the Everglades, Key Largo for snorkeling at the national park there (www.pennekamppark- for info and prices). Key Largo is supposed to be about 58 miles from Fort Lauderdale. Also in the Pompano Beach and Deerfield beach area are some deep sea fishing boats that go out to the reefs off shore for short periods and are very reasonable.I think last time my husband and I paid about $30 a piece for 3 hour trip- and caught the most we ever had (have paid 200 a person in other places for longer trips and didn't catch as much). Anyway it is something we are going to try with our kids for the first time this trip.
I hope you have a great time.

Claire I seem to remember you were asking about a Marriott property in FLL a while ago & also got recos for Lago Mar. I think the Marriott Beach Towers has been mentioned here as a good place to stay with teens. Las Olas Blvd. is the main "drag" with restaurants & shops. There's a boat taxi service near there & there's also a boat ride you can take to see beautiful homes. Hooters or Shooters restaurant is a teen hangout place. If you do a text search here for Ft Lauderdale AND hotels you'll bring up some threads as well as ft Lauderdale AND restaurants.

I live just outside Fort Lauderdale and will be happy to e-mail you if you want any info. If you want to get a nice little place close to the beach, check out the Cabia Habana. It's tucked in near the Marriott Beach Resort, Yankee Clipper, and Radisson Bahia Mar. I've never been there, but it's supposed to be a nice place overlooking the marina, with a nice tiki bar. I have friends living near me and they stay there every year, just to "get away" from home. I think they have a suite, which might accommodate your family. Check it out, they have a website.

claire, speaking of pompano beach, go to the atlantic blvd exit on I95. head east till just before us1 intracoastal bridge, take a left in a strip mall and visit Sunfish Grill. absolutely the best seafood south fl has to offer.

Heartburn3-Do you mean the Bahia Cabana? I have never heard of the Cabia Habana. The Bahia Cabana is now owned by Best Western. It does have a nice outdoor eating area on a deck overlooking the intercoastal. There is a small pool area in the center of the courtyard. I have never seen the rooms here, but the hotel itself is old. It is in a nice location and I would be interested to know how the rooms are here.

OMG!! Hey, it was after midnight when I wrote "Cabia Habana"... LOL You are right, it's BAHIA CABANA. Sorry, Claire. Check out their website, last time I looked, they had pics. If you want me to try to stop by and check out the rooms, I'll be happy to do it, but you are on pretty close time if you are going June 16th. I'll e-mail you so I can send you any info you are wanting. And a personal message to JD: Thanks for keeping me straight...I must have been extremely tired. My mind is like mush these days.
