Fort Lauderdale Airport

Hi all,
I have a layover in FLL using Spirit Airlines to St Thomas both ways this trip. I have heard that this terminal is small. Anyplace to grab a bite to eat and drink there? I have a 2.5 hour layover and my first flight leaves at the you know what crack of dawn. I think I am spoiled by our usual connection in Charlotte. Thanks for any info :)

fll.net is the official site of the airport. It lists various restaurants and shops - seems Spirit leaves from Terminal 4. Not a huge variety and not a central area with restaurants like in Charlotte. But I flew out of FLL 2 weeks ago at 8 AM and managed to find something to eat and also to grab and take on flight. Not a bad airport for one of its size. (Not relevant to your trip, but they have a really nice rental car central building - one shuttle bus serves all car rental companies in one building and cars are kept nicely garaged in a convenient facility)

There are a few places to get an overpriced nosh and little meal. They do not offer candle light and violins.

Gail, I was recently at FLL, and we simply walked to the rental car area (followed the signs) all indoors. At the end we took an elevator down. Maybe because we were at a different terminal? Didn't even know there was a shuttle, and it was close we never even considered it could be an option.

It was very convenient. Upon returning the car, it took me longer to get my luggage out than it did for them to check me in, and then we simply retraced our steps back to the terminal.

If you can figure out which terminal you'll be in, you can see what's where here

I've never had a problem finding food there but haven't flown Spirit.

It is a very small airport and there is a limited number of food choices. I use it a couple a times a year to visit Mom.

And I do not rent cars at FLL. There are ridiculous surcharges on rentals there and take a cab elsewhere to save hundreds of dollars on a week's rental.

I have never flown into Charlotte but anybody who seeks more than overpriced barely edible food at an airport will spend many unfulfilled days.

Thanks for the info and links. Very helpful! I was definitely not looking for anything "gourmet", LOL. Really just looking for a place to help kill a couple of hours. I think each terminal looks to have something that will work. For some really crappy airport food, St Thomas fits the bill. Why is it that airport food is so sub par for the most part?
