PT Cruiser, hands down. Much better for lower back comfort, and lots of room.

If you can call the rental location directly, try calling a few hours before you get there and ask that they hold onto the PT for you, per your reservation.

Focus feels like you are sitting in a tin box -- not too safe feeling.

Hey Kal.
My family and I had 16 BMWs (I sold my beloved M 6 in Oct '04) before I bought the WRX Wagon in June '02.
The Subie is a far better car for the USD.
It is so bullet proof and the turbo is great in the mountains that I brought it to MX and there are no dealers here.
