For Portland Locals - Weather question
 

Hi there... we leave for PDX this Wednesday. I have to work a couple of days in Welches, then we head back to Portland.
I thought I would surprise my husband with a Motorcycle rental on Wednesday, but I cannot get a definitive weather forecast.
It's like it is different from site to site.
One says sunny, the other says rainy.
The motorcycle rental is obviously not really an option if it is raining.
This rental would be picked up near PDX this Wednesday.
He will ride it to Welches and the plan is to ride all around that area on Thursday. Friday we will head back to PDX to drop off the bike.

I need a decent forecast.
Can someone help????

There's no way to accurately predict the weather in advance here in the PNW. Could you wait until Wed AM to decide?

I have asked the rental agency... that would be ideal.
I could understand the forecasting if there are clouds.
I guess the point is that it will not be 100% sunny... so if there are clouds, there is a chance it will rain. Ugh...
Last 5 trips to OR it rained nonstop. (Aug/Oct/Jun/Sep)
I love OR and WA but I hate that darn rain!
It would be so awesome for him to ride a bike around for a couple of days.
I am keeping my finger crossed!

Ok... Wednesday morning where do I go to get the best forecast.
I am guessing a local news channel, since they seem to have a better track record than weather websites.

In Oregon in June, you assume rain (until after July 4th at least). Saturday was a good example of how quickly the weather can change. Most of the day, it was a gorgeous, sunny, warm day, maybe 78 degrees. You're thinking, "Wow, what a beautiful holiday weekend!" It was still like this as the sun was gradually headed down at 7PM.

By 9PM, it was raining in buckets. We also had some thunder and lightning which was very unusual for here.

Still, you are best assuming rain at least part of the day, unless the forecast has days and days of sun shown.

I was in Portland the last week of May 2007, and the temps got up to low 90'sF for the highs. I hear that was very unusual!

Most likely it will go back and forth between being drizzly and maybe even seeing the sun. But downpours are not forecast, so that is the good news;) The forecast right now (a bit early to count on it) is for Friday onward to be at least dry, so can you change the motorcycle to after that?

Honestly, this time of year the weather can change almost by the hour.

90F temperatures in Portland are unusual for MAY but 100 degrees in July-August is not unusual - not for weeks at a time, but 100 or high 90s is a common occurrence for at least a few days every summer. Fortunately, it's not as humid as it is on the east coast or the mid-west.

I'm always hopeful that one of these threads will be about Portland Maine....

You might be better off waiting til Wed and see how the weather is..it can change completely in hours..

Here is Seattle, which is sorta similar, the weatherman says "cloudy with periouds of sunshine," or "sunny with patches of overcast." Either way, it's a shoe in.

I don't remember the weather being similar to Seattle that much, when I lived in Portland.
We seemed to have more sunny days..although that might have been a freak summer lol..
I know they both get a lot of rain but I would never have used one weather forecast for the other city/state..

Well it has been rainy here today, with about half the day being downpours. The drive to the aiport took longer than usual because of this. It is just drizzly now.

Where can I find the best forecast online?
I'll be checking Wednesday morning, about 8am EST.
The motorcycle rental is a Weds-Fri deal, starting Friday we will be busy with family.

Whichever site says sunny and warm is the best!! Might not be right, though. ;-) Truthfully, I don't know of one site that has a better chance of being more accurate than the others. Most of us hope for the best, then plan for the worst.

Are you sure your husband can rent a motorcycle here? Locals are required to have a special certification to ride any &quot;motorcycle&quot; 50cc's and larger.

He has a motorcycle license issued by the Republic of Texas.
