For anyone stranded in Atlanta - 1/10/11
 

I just heard on the news that the Marriott at Perimeter is offering special rates for stranded travelers and they'll be accepting pets.

It's a mess out there folks. Nothing flying out of the airport. No MARTA buses running today - and maybe tomorrow. The trains are running so jump on a train and head to Perimeter.

I20 closed in both directions at Conyers.

Yes and tomorrow it's headed this way for tomorrow night and all day Wednesday. NYC is now expecting 6-12 inches of snow and more due north of the city.

Please stay safe everyone, this is gonna be a bad year for snow. My cat old me,,,,,yes I know.....he grew a REALLLLLLY thick fur coat which means cold and snowy. Last time was the really bad winter we had a few years ago, so his predictions are usually right every year. Check with me next October for 2012 predictions.

Just got an email calling for winter drivers for Meals on Wheels. I never thought about that before. So folks who have 4WD and/ or are comfortable with driving in winter conditions are needed. I can post more info with contacts is anyone is interested.

Tonights AMTRTAK Crescent #20 leaving Atlanta 8;21PM is SOLD OUT. If you don't find another way, tomorrows train northbound still has seats same time same station.
The southbound train to New Orleans will not run until Friday.

Meals On Wheels Atlanta needs volunteers who can safely deliver meals tomorrow! If you have a four-wheel drive vehicle, experience driving in winter weather, or are otherwise comfortable driving in wintery conditions, please come in between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Routes normally take two to three hours, but winter weather makes it less predictable.

What misery. Truckers have been stuck on interstates for 24 hours. A trucker was just on the news who is hauling $60K in cows - with nowhere to go. He hopes they'll be able to move on before the cows starve to death. I don't remember anything like this. Thank goodness the power has stayed on or we would really be in a mess.

We left Charlotte yesterday afternoon at 3PM after meeting friends at the airport, who were really right on time. The drive to Litchfield usually takes 4 hours. The roads in SC just south of us were AWFUL--untouched, one lane, and driving 15mph. Surprisingly we arrived in 5 hours--slow and steady and NO NO traffic does win the day. We "needed" to go ahead and leave because today was sleet and freezing rain and inches of ice.
