Food tours in Chicago
We are planning a trip to Chicago this fall and would like to take a walking food tour.
The top two seem to be Tastebuds and Planet Food tours. Has anyone been on these tours, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. |
There's really no comparison in our book- Chicago Food Planet is the way to go. They get you outta downtown and into the neighborhoods; great guides too. We've taken all three tours- just did the Chinatown tour in May- incredible. They do an amazing job of focusing not only on the foods (and lots of food to eat!), but on the history of homes, restaurants, areas, etc. $45 well spent- we've taken food tours in NYC, Boston, Miami, San Fran and Minneapolis- this outfit is by far the best.

Thanks for your reply. We took a food tour in New York and loved it so hope we will like the one in Chicago as well.
We will be staying at the Homewood Suites on Grand Ave-which Chicago Food Planet tour would have a meeting place near our hotel? |

Did you do Foods of NY in Greenwich Village? Spectacular tour if you haven't done it yet- my fav was the Murray's cheese shop. Their Near north tour is closest to downtown- just depends on your comfort zone of the city. Start close to downtown or start a bit farther (i.e. chinatown is south of city but not far- plenty of public transport though). Hope this helps- plenty of great food in Chicago so go explore!
