Food for Tanglewood

Have tix for Fri. and Sat. evening and Sunday afternoon concerts in August -- seats at back of shed (could picnic on lawn with blanket, but not likely to mess with chairs).

First, if you've been there, what can you tell me re: the Tanglewood Cafe and Grill on premises? Food decent, crowded before concerts, worth it?

Second, what about the "Food to Go" option? Is it a good idea? How do we arrange it? Is food good? Or better to get something to-go outside the concert venue and bring it in? (If so, recommendation?)

Third, we'd like to eat at least once in Lenox and walk to the concert, if that's realistic. Any favorites in town? Is walking not that convenient and/or does that put our car at risk for either towing or costly parking back in town?

What's your favorite way to get food before or during the concerts?

Thanx

Food to go is not too bad but it is expensive. I would go to Nejames in Lenox or Guido's on the Lenox / Pittsfield line and make picnics from their to go sections. I don't like the walk from Lenox to Tanglewood because there is so much traffic and at night it is dark at the end.

We usually park on the grounds, rather than leaving a car on the street in Lenox, which I cannot imagine is a good idea.

There are good gourmet/wine shops in Stockbridge and Lenox, though I never noticed their names. Just bought the food and wine. If you are coming from the south, Guido's Supermarket in Great Barrington is well-stocked with goodies.

Parking is easy on the grounds, and they do a superb job of getting you in and out. The MassPike is another story if you should be going toward Boston. That is when I would choose to stay and have dinner. It is much nicer than sitting on the Pike wondering what the holdup is. Traffic is the sad answer.

Parking in lenox and walking in is not a good idea. It would be probably a 2 mile walk, and would put you leaving, on very busy country roads, with no sidewalks and often times very little shoulder. If you do choose to do it, please bring flashlights and reflective clothing, like a jogger at night.

I agree with above, food is not bad but not cheap. It will be somewhat crowded, but how much depends a lot on the weather. If its rainy, it wont be bad. It also depends a bit on the performer. Will be much more crowded for itzaak pehrlman, or yo yo ma.

Nejaime's and Guido's are both good suggestions. Nejaimes staff is usually quite helpful about choosing a nice wine too. There,s also a really nice cheese shop in Great Barrington, I think it's Rubiners, from which you can pick up your supplies.
