Fontana Dam in NC Mtns
We are going with the In Laws and 1 yr old to Bryson City and Fontana Dam the Friday before Mother's Day.
Any recommended eateries in Bryson City? Is the Train Shop/Museum interesting or worth the entrance fee? How much time should we allot from BC to Fontana Dam. Hard to go by the mileage on the map sites in the mtns! Is there an official tour at the dam or just the visitor center and then walk around? I went to the TVA website but there weren't any details. It looks like you just walk across the top. ??? |

I would call but the visitor center isn't open til May and my internet searches have left me clueless! |
The entrance fee for the train museum in Bryson City is steep. It takes about an hour to go through and there isn't much animation to keep you entertained. There is a kids layout area. It's a nice stop, but it's expensive -- $9 adults and $5 children. I don't know of any discounts available -- check local brochures.

Take a look here. We have stayed at the Freymont Inn and the food is very good. |
The train shop/museum is worth the money if you're just ga-ga over trains like a few people I know are. For the average person, I'm not sure. The REAL trains are a lot of fun to ride! :)
