Fontainbleu Hotel ?????

So exactly where is this hotel located? How far from South Beach - can you walk - is it a good place for 2 teens? Thanks

The Fontainebleau is 4441 Collins Ave, which makes it basically Collins and 44th Street. The northern border of South Beach is roughly 23rd Street. So we're talking 18 lo-o-o-ong blocks-- maybe 4 miles. Sure, you can walk it, but....

It's one of the Grand Old Ladies of the Miami Beach resorts of the 50s, and the pool area is famous. Don't know about the rooms, but it IS a Hilton property, if that makes a difference. It should be just fine.

OK, so my math's off today. Make that 21 blocks...!!

Would this area be better for young teens than SOuth Beach with lots of skin showing??

Actually, I think you'll see as much skin at the Fontainbleu. If seeing skin offends you, I wouldn't go to the beaches at Miami.

The kids will like you more for booking them where there is a little more activity and action -- namely South Beach, rather than the single big resort of the Fontainbleu.

Well, it really depends on the family in question. Nudity per se doesn't bug me or my family (or my nieces and nephews), but drunken louts do. South Beach right now, during Spring Break, would be the last place to bring teenagers IMHO. In the summer, it's Low Season, so there's less of that foolishness. Still, up in the MiMo District (where the Fontainebleau is), it's quieter and calmer. There's not a hell of a lot to do in the immediate vicinity, but that's what cabs and buses were made for. I think it will be just fine.

We will be going the first part of Aug. (Off season). Knowing my kids, they love resorts with lots to do and good pools. So the question is should we try South Beach (which hotel) or stick with Fontainblue??? Help

I'd say look in South Beach, and accept that the rooms in a lot of these places will be small. Getting a couple of rooms at the Doubletree Surfcomber might fit your budget. It's beachfront, it has a pretty good pool area, and most comments I've heard are positive. Another possibility might be the Raleigh, with its famous fleur-de-lis pool.

I will also be in the area that time of year-- celebrating my 40th. I got a great rate on an oceanview room at the Cardozo (no pool, but oh what a comfy, stylish, sexy little hotel...!), AND I got a good airfare (LGB-FLL for $266 round-trip!!), so I'm just flyin' high!
