fodors - why old posts?

isn't there a way that you can automatically delete a post that is over 30 days old. it's ridiculous that old posts keep showing up. please, let's clean up the site to make it more useful. thank you.

Don't delete old posts. They provide valuable info for those looking for it. If you delete old threads then what is the point of the search?

Wow Mar 14th, 2002 10:27 AM

And let old posters alone too.

Some of those old posts are ridiculous. These are some of the ones I came across just today:

*Going to the NY Worlds Fair. How much for a Belgian waffle?
*How can I get tickets to the Lawrence Welk Show?
*How to visit the Grand Canyon on 50 cents a day.
*Wheres the best place in Hawaii to see Queen Lili'uokalani?
*Going to Europe. Where can I get shots?
Then don't read them. Problem solved.

I agree, but since my attention span is only 30 seconds, I think all posts over 30 seconds old should be deleted. With the speed of the Internet, what could possibly be relevant after that?

How about an archive for post over so many days old. They can be read, but close them to new replies.

lcuy Mar 14th, 2002 01:27 PM

The problem is not the old posts..it is with people who don't check the date, then post a reply and bring it up to the top. Maybe posts over a month old should have ***ARCHIVE** printed across the top to alert eager posters.

The problem is with an idiot who calls himself "topper." He/She/It thinks they are being helpful by bringing up old posts to the top. The fact is it's annoying as hell and some of the information is outdated....

The old posts have a good deal of value. Without them, we would be answering the same questions again and again. The information in the large majority of these posts is not out-of-date and I have often used them in my trip planning.

Good Answer Lcuy! I have never been able to use the search feature. I must be doing something wrong. I agree that posts over 30 days should be archived.
