Fodors:Quit trying to sell MeGuidebooks!

When I click "Talk" why am I routed to the page selling guidebooks? Did someone at Fodor's decide this is a good trick?

Yes, I know if I click on my name thethreads where I have previously posted will come up but I usually am not looking for my own previous posts... and don't usually log in that way.

is this bugging anyone else?

seetheworld Mar 29th, 2006 02:56 PM

Are you sure Moneygirl? This happened to me until I realized that they switched the "talk" tab with the "bookstore". You might be just moving your mouse to where "talk" used to be.

I think.

FainaAgain Mar 29th, 2006 02:56 PM

NO... I open Fodor's website, click on my name and then on a forum... I didn't see any guidebooks.

Do you have this forum bookmarked?

petitepois Mar 29th, 2006 02:57 PM

You're not crazy. It was happening to me, but after a few days of resolutely hitting "talk" it stopped! But it was incredibly annoying while it lasted.

KT Mar 29th, 2006 03:27 PM

Thet've redone the entry page. If you're opening to a bookmarked version of the page, clicking Talk will take you to the bookstore. Try typing in the whole URL and see if you get the new entry page--I did.

missypie Mar 29th, 2006 03:31 PM

I type in the address anew every time. When I click talk, I also get the bookstore.

LoveItaly Mar 29th, 2006 03:37 PM

I have Fodor's bookmarked. For about 3 days when I clicked Talk I also got the bookstore. But as of this morning I can click Talk and I get Talk. I hope everyone else gets the problem straightened out. Don't know why I did.

HowardR Mar 29th, 2006 03:39 PM

Hey folks, it's their website! They can do what they want. We are their guests, and it's free. Admittedly, it may not be wise PR for them to do it. But, it's their choice.
(PS: I'm not having the problem!)

FainaAgain Mar 29th, 2006 03:42 PM

Howard, but if the hosts made a mistake, how would they know if not from us?

HowardR Mar 29th, 2006 04:24 PM

Maybe they don't think they're making a mistake!

bookhall Mar 29th, 2006 04:54 PM

I'm not having the problem. But if I were, it'd be a small price to pay for this site.

padams421 Mar 29th, 2006 05:11 PM

Those people who are not having the problem don't realize how annoying it is. I get the bookstore when I click on talk too.

antlori Mar 29th, 2006 05:45 PM

I have it bookmarked so it goes directly into the website. I don't have to click on "Talk" at all so I've never had the Bookstore problem. Why don't you just bookmark the U.S. page and then you won't have to worry about being routed to the Bookstore?

LoveItaly Mar 29th, 2006 08:12 PM

Because antlori, I go to other Boards besides the US Board. But in my case no more problem.

First we hallucinate Dumbo, then books - is this a step up or down?

Diana Mar 30th, 2006 05:15 AM

It appears to have been fixed today...

Brian_in_Charlotte Mar 30th, 2006 05:55 AM

Just bookmark: http://www.fodors.com/forums/

and you don't have to click "Talk" and can choose any forum.

moneygirl Mar 30th, 2006 07:48 PM

Nice that I am not the only one having it happen! It's not that I dislike guidebooks... :)
