Fodors Fall Foliage Flight Fotos
Hi all,
there are a few pretty leaf pictures to be seen here. It isn't peak yet, believe it or not! I expected a lot more reds and oranges.. I went flying ALL day yesterday - some friends with a Piper Arrow III took me up to Lancaster, PA, and back with them, and my friend Dean had also asked me to go on a fun flight with him in the club's Diamond. We scooted around and ended up in Winchester VA before heading back. I don't have all the pictures here, I used his camera as well for the westernmost part of our trip (my battery died!!) so yesterday I was in both Lancaster PA and Winchester VA - all in a matter of hours really. and still had time in between for a leisurely lunch at one airport! http://www.ofoto.com/I.jsp?c=eldvm1b...&y=-z49llf |
Nice photos, Elizabeth, thanks for showing them. Did you fly out of/into Leesburg or someplace like that? The colors are surprisingly green. I thought I might have missed the peak colors by not going out to the eastern panhandle of WV this weekend (north of Wingchester), but maybe next weekend will be ok. |
Great album, flygirl! Obviously a super day for flying--whether leaf-looking or not. And "High Flight" ia always a graceful accent....
|
thank you! it sure was a great day.
Mr. W - this was ALL over. took off from Gaithersburg, but all the way up to Lancaster, and over to Winchester. we were a bit north of Leesburg but you may be able to see the tip in some of them (mainly in Dean's photos, I used his camera when mine died) |
ps. if I get Dean's photos, we have some great ones of Harper's Ferry.
yes, it's still very green. so where else can you get up to the minute leaf sighting updates? :) |
"Can you see the traffic?" I like that. :-)) (pic 27)
|
hey April! that's actually not a trick question! that's what they call planes in the air. if ATC advises you of traffic in the area, you are supposed to seek and find, and radio back "traffic in sight" to let them know you see them. prevents mid-airs.
so, do you see the traffic? :) (yes, we were banking a little - can you tell, by looking at the horizon?) |
Interesting perspective, flygirl, thanks! Puts me in mind of a book I ordered:
Window Seat: Reading the Landscape from the Air by Gregory Dicum |
what an interesting book!
|
flygirl,
Yes. Delightful slideshow. |
cool, thanks!
hey, are you another pilot? someone here mentioned that they did or do fly, on one of my threads and now I forgot who. did you and your husband own a 6-seater, or am I getting you confused with someone else? |
What wonderful pictures!
You live in a very lovely area, flygirl thanks for sharing! R5 |
flygirl,
Me or Maggi? Me, no... but thinking about it. My husband has been involved with aviation many years and has his Commercial, but sadly no plane. We both love open cockpit flying. :-) |
for Cigale. one thing which is funny - some photos have reflections of me in them - you can see the maps on my lap!
|
Ok, I looked at these. Very nice, but you can get better shots of fall foliage here in New england. too bad your buddy was reading his paper or whatever that he intrudes on a lovely shot. You have some lovely photos and one day, i can see you with your own plane. SOON?
|
Cigale - it's in the plans. ;) gotta get legal first.
oddly enough, I had a dream last night that I did buy a nice spiffy new plane - and lent it to a friend - who ran it into something - here I am, in my dream, ticked off that someone bent up my nice new plane and I couldn't even fly it yet! ha ha |
