Flying to Hawaii

When is the cheapest time of the year to fly to Hawaii? Any advice about getting a good price? Thanks!

The cheapest times are fall or spring. Do lots of looking, at places like Expedia, Kayak or Travelocity, to get an idea of the prices and flight times. Then check the individual airlines' websites. Don't book too far in advance unless you see a great deal, I've gotten my best deals about 2 months ahead of our travel dates. Just keep checking and checking, sometimes deals pop up and are gone in a day.

It pays to get familiar with what airlines fly the route from your departure airport. I stumbled onto a website special $329 fare with great flight times, nonstop Seattle/Honolulu for travel this past February on Hawaiian Air.

Become a Hawaiian Airlines FF. We always fly Hawaiian. Their service is great, planes are always nice and clean, on time. Check their website often. They usually have deals. My friend is going to the Big Island in Nov. She booked her flight through expedia and thought she got a good deal. I put her itinerary in on Hawaiian and it was $150.00 cheaper! Have a great time.

Deals come and go most of the year, but right now until mid-November is usually one of the better periods for airfares.

Just today my SO booked a direct flight from SFO to KOA (Kona) on United's website, $364 PP/RT.

I just booked with Continental for travel in June of '06. Flying from Virginia to Honolulu $724. That's the best I've seen for a while. Several years ago (in September) my DH and I flew to Maui on Delta and were able to take advantage of a "companion flys free" deal. It worked great.

Nov fares are low right now ....less than $600 return Boston to Honolulu.

Just keep checking or sign up for email alerts of low fares.

Sign up with Hawaiian Airlines . Sometimes they offer a 10% discount. Last year, I picked up LAX to HNL early May for $198 RT. Offered to up grade to First Class at last minute, for an additional $125. If you are close to SWA airport, ATA offers great prices combo with SWA.

Thanks for all the info everyone! It seems like Hawaiin is the way to go - I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled.

How far in advance should I book? Not too far, I'm sure, but I don't want to cut it too close either.

tlbooz - I'm amazed that you got a RT ticket from LAX for so cheap! I'll actually be flying from San Diego, I actually tried looking at ATA, but they don't offer flights to HI from SD.

The best prices I have seen lately are on www.airtohawaii.com. They are reputable. I just used then for a flight to Oahu.

On the Home Page of Fodor's under Travel Wire there is an article saying that American Airlines has a sale going for flights to Hawaii, good through I think the middle of Dec. 2005. Has anyone read this?

aloha airlines has $378.oo roundtrip from west coast on their webpage now for travel november.

I actually booked the AA deal for over Thanksgiving. Roundtrip to Maui, nonstop, for only $500. Including all taxes and everything.

The last Hawaii trip I planned was months in advance. It hasn't even really hit me that I'll be in Maui in a little over a month!

If you can still find tickets, I would certainly take advantage of these deals...

As with most of those cheap fare deals, the period ends 15 December as it always does.

I would strongly advise you to look at consolidator and aggregator sites such as
www.mobissimo.com, www.onetravel.com, and www.itasoftware.com.

We booked a trip to Hawaii from the East Coast for December 20th through Onetravel and got a First Class fare of less than $1000 R/T which means we ended up saving about 75%.
