Flying to Grand Canyon
I will be flying to Grand Canyon from New York for 4 nights and then to Las Vegas for 2 nights.Should I fly to Phoenix or Las Vegas to start my trip?
|
Check airfares and see if it costs more to fly into one city and out of another. If not, fly into Phoenix and out of Las Vegas. I might also shorten GC by a day and stop at Bryce or Zion on way to Las Vegas.

You say on your other post that you will be in Sedona for two nights. So have you decided to stop in Sedona on way to GC and drop 2 nights from the GC time?
|
How about Flagstaff? They have flights there from JFK. It's a lot closer than any of the other two. We just drove from Phoenix to GC and it took forever. Then we drove to Vegas after that. You wouldn't want to do the Vegas-GC drive twice.

Las Vegas makes the most sense if you are ending your trip there. And it's usually a cheaper flight than Phoenix (unless you live near Islip and can fly from there on Southwest).
Open-jaw flights are usually more expensive, and you certainly aren't going to save much driving time by flying into Phoenix (the Grand Canyon is 4 hours, Sedona a little less than 3). It's not that different from LV, though of course Sedona is further. I realize Flagstaff is much closer, but it will be a lot more expensive to fly there. |
Sedona is 110 miles from Phoenix. I stay by the Phoenix airport when I get in late in the day, and the drive to Sedona is no more than 2 hrs the next morning. The posted speed limit on the hwy btwn Phoneix and Sedona is 70 mph at some points and 75 in others.

Biniyak, you've posted this exact question twice in two days. You seeem new here- do you not know how to find your other post and the replies you got there? It is best to go back to your other post and answer it yourself- that brings it back to the top of the queries and additional people will reply.

We have done this trip by flying into Phoenix, spent 3 nights in Sedona and then flew out of Las Vegas. The open jaw flight was not very much more than the round trip.
Our friends flew in and out of Vegas, did Zion and Bryce and then met us at the Grand Canyon. We have also flown in and out of Phoenix with a stay in Scottsdale. With an open jaw flight, you need to see if you can find a car rental where you are not penalized for a one way drop off. Cars are also less expensive to rent at the LV airport. |
