Fly Fishing in Anchorage and Seward
Going to Alaska in mid July. Flying into Anchorage, then driving to Seward and possibly continuing on to Homer. Does anyone know some good flyfishing spots in any of those three areas? Any guides to recommend? Thanks.

I would highly recommend Alaska Rivers Company, which is located in Cooper Landing (on the road between Seward and Homer). http://www.alaskariverscompany.com/

We had a great trip with them a few years ago. Took a float fishing trip down the Upper Kenai river, caught dozens of trout and beautiful surroundings.

Cooper Landing is a major hot spot for fishing--especially at the confluence of the Russian and Kenai Rivers.

You won't be doing fly fishing though, you will be doing combat fishing--standing side by side with people as far as you can see.

Watch for a little while to pick up their technique. You will need heavier tackle than normal. If you plan on taking your own, I suggest you call ahead to see what you need.

You can go to Hope, AK, and do some salmon fishing in Resurrection Creek. Take the Seward Highway south from Anchorage - about 2 1/2 hours.

My family and I went trout fishing on a float trip down the Kenai River with Kenai Cache outfitters out of Cooper Landing (next to Gwin's)in Sept 2000. It was past season and it was just the four of us, catching trout after trout (catch and release). One of my best memories of Alaska.

Thanks everyone for the info. Connie, combat fishing is not our style, but we'll know where to stay away from! We like quiet streams and more remote areas, but I really appreciate all the answers. Thanks again.

When we took our trip (granted, it was mid-August) there were no other fishermen around. The guide had special permits to go into the Kenai Wildlife Refuge where there was no one else. I would suggest giving them a call.

Combat fishing wasn't our style either but when the salmon are running that's the way it is. The locals really enjoy getting out in the summers!!

July 2000 I caught a 58# king salmon on the Kanai River!!!! Combat fishing is exactly how I felt the next day: sore arm, shoulder, back, and bruised legs from banging around the boat for 20 minutes. But it was fun!!
